U-12s show well at GA Cup

U-12 GA Cup

The Toronto FC U-12 (2007) team was in Atlanta this past weekend to take part in the new look U-12 Generation adidas Cup. The team played seven games of 7v7 over the jam-packed weekend.


This was the first year the GA Cup was hosted over the American Thanksgiving weekend for the U-12s. Prior to this year, the tournament was held in March in conjunction with the U-17 GA Cup.


The Reds opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake. Robert Mancini had to the goal and Nathaniel Abraham had the clean sheet. The second game of the day saw the Young Reds fall 1-0 to DC United. In the final game of day one, the Reds fell 3-2 to FC Dallas. Mancini and Quinton Wilson had the goals for the Young Reds.


On Saturday the boys opened up the day with a 4-2 loss to the LA Galaxy. Wilson tucked home a PK and Colin Pate added one late. The second game on Saturday saw the Reds fall 4-3 to Orlando City SC. Dylan Vanney and Mason Vanney each scored from the run of play and Wilson finished another PK in the defeat.


The team opened Sunday with a commanding 4-1 win over Sporting Kansas City. Wilson, both Vanneyā€™s and Lucas Lima scored in the win. To close out the tournament the Reds pulled off a 3-1 win over the host Atlanta United, with Dylan Vanney scoring a hat trick in the win.


At 3-4-0 Toronto FC finished fourth in Group B. The Colorado Rapids defeated FC Dallas 3-0 in the finals to take home the title.
