Recap: 2018 GA Cup Day Three

GA Day 3

The 2018 GA Cup Fall Regional wrapped up on Monday as both the Toronto FC U-15 and U-17 teams were both in action.


U-17 Division

The Toronto FC Academy U-17 team lost their first game of the Generation Adidas Cup qualifying event after being beaten 2-1 by a tough FC Dallas side.


The game started concentrated in the midfield with little space and chances. The Reds had better chances to open the lead in the first half with Jayden Nelson, Julian Altobelli and Jacen Russell-Rowe putting some pressure on Dallasā€™ defense, but nothing came from it.


In the second half, the reds were showing well but Dallas was controlling more of the ball and not giving space. Dallas opened the lead in the 59th minute with a right footed shot in the bottom right corner. A few moments later in the 62ā€™ Dallas scored again to double their lead.


After conceding two goals, the reds pressured more on Dallasā€™ defense and in the 81st minute Julian Altobelli pulled one back, but it was not enough as the Reds fell 2-1.


Elsewhere, the Columbus Crew defeated the Houston Dynamo 4-3 and Sporting Kansas City knocked off the Montreal Impact 2-1. Here is a look at the standings after this weekend's games.

The Reds will close out their GA Cup Regional qualifying with a match in Montreal next weekend before the Spring qualifying session in February.


U-15 Division

The Toronto FC Academy U-15 team showed another solid performance after beating Huston Dynamo 5-2 on the third day of the Generation Adidas Cup qualifying event.


The Dynamo took the lead early in the game, scoring a goal in the 13th minute. After conceding a goal the reds showed patience to control the ball and find space in Dynamoā€™s defense. Hugo Mbongue scored in the 26th minute, tying the game.


In the 40th minute, Gabriel Pellegrino puts TFC in the lead with a right footed shot in the center of the box to the bottom left corner. Luca Accettola scored TFCā€™s third goal in the 50th minute.


Hugo Mbongue scored his second goal in the 60th minute of the game on a counter attack. The Dynamo tried to get back into the game and scored one more goal in the 67th minute. But shortly after, in the 70th minute, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty slotted one home inside the box, assisted by Hugo Mbongue.


The U-15 team will continue their qualifying campaign in February at the spring qualifying event. Here is look at the standings after this weekends' matches.
