The 2016 campaign is here. I know, what offseason?
Members of the Toronto Football Club reported to the KIA Training Ground to take their medicals on Friday. They’ll begin training on Saturday, with the first media availability session of the new year set to take place on Monday.
It’s been a relatively busy offseason for the Reds, but not as much as in the past. General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko made four key additions, acquiring defenders Drew Moor and Steven Beitashour, as well as midfielder Will Johnson and goalkeeper Clint Irwin.
Before the team begins preparing for their trip to Los Angeles next week, let’s recap the week that was.
Monday - Toronto FC acquires goalkeeper Clint Irwin in a trade with the Colorado Rapids. The Reds sent targeted allocation money (TAM), the club’s highest 2016 third round MLS SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2017 first round MLS SuperDraft pick to the Rapids in the deal.
Tuesday - Sebastian Giovinco meets up with an old friend in Los Angeles during the MLS marketing and media tour. Toronto FC players react to the addition of Clint Irwin. The Reds wrap up the MLS SuperDraft with three picks in the third and fourth rounds.
Wednesday - “He was one of my favorite teammates in Colorado, so I was disappointed when he left, but to be reunited is awesome,” Clint Irwin said of linking up with Drew Moor once again. “It'll help make that transition smoother.” On this week’s Come On You Reds Podcast the guys review the offseason and hand out grades.
Thursday - Jozy Altidore on his plans for 2016:“I’m excited to take part in another year with the national team hopefully and hopefully go a little bit further with Toronto in the MLS playoffs.” Choose your starting XI for the season opener against the New York Red Bulls.
The Reds will travel to Los Angeles, CA next Wednesday and remain there until February 7th. TFC is slated to play four games before returning home to Toronto. More details about that trip will be available next week.
