Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore is gearing up for the 2016 football campaign early, training with the United States National Team in Southern California.

Alitdore spoke with USSoccer.com on Wednesday and outlined his goals for this year. Maintaining his health is a big part of the plan.

“Excited,” he said of his outlook for 2016. “I’m excited to take part in another year with the national team hopefully and hopefully go a little bit further with Toronto in the MLS playoffs. And just overall, try to stay healthy - that’s the biggest thing for me. The last couple of years have been rough, so I just want to stay healthy, stay fit and try to help my team the best that I can.”

U.S National Team Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann added his thoughts on Altidore's plans for 2016.

“He has big goals,” Klinsmann said of Altidore. “He’s dreaming about the next World Cup; he’s dreaming about the Copa America; he’s dreaming about winning the MLS Cup with Toronto. He wants to put his stamp on the National Team program. And so over the years in his maturing process, he’s gathered all that information from the other older players, and now he becomes one of those as well. So he now wants to make sure that he makes the right decisions. So we see a Jozy now coming in prepared. He’s eager to take advantage of every training session, not wasting a minute on the field, preparing himself the best way possible for the next day.”
