Toronto FC midfielder Will Johnson has been named to Canadian Head Coach Benito Floro’s 23-man roster for camp and a friendly match. The camp runs from January 25 to February 6, 2016, in preparations for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers. Canada will meet the United States on Friday, February 5 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The match will be broadcast live on TSN with kick-off set for 10:30 p.m. ET.    

Johnson, 28, recently joined Toronto FC from the Portland Timbers via trade on December 18, 2015. Last season with the Timbers, Johnson made 12 appearances. He was part of the Timbers MLS Cup Championship side, which marked the second MLS Cup in his career (Real Salt Lake in 2009).

Johnson has earned 38 caps and scored four goals for the Canadian National team. He earned his first senior team cap in a friendly match against Luxembourg on November 16, 2005. He scored his first goal on September 3, 2011 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Saint Lucia. Johnson’s most recent caps for Canada came last month during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches on November 14, 2015 where he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Honduras and on November 18 in El Salvador in a 0-0 draw. In addition, he has represented Canada at three CONCACAF Gold Cups (2009, 2011, 2013). In 2013, Johnson was named the BMO Canadian Player of the Year, it marked the first time he won the award.
