Major Soccer League (MLS) announced today Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea has been selected for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game. The 2026 MLS All-Star Game will feature the MLS All-Stars taking on the LIGA MX All-Stars on Wednesday, July 29 at the Bank of America Stadum in Charlotte, North Carolina.Â
Laryea joins the MLS All-Star team after being one of two selections made by MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, alongside Red Bull New York forward Julian Hall. This will be Laryea’s first MLS All-Star Game invitation and he becomes the 10th player to be selected from TFC since the club’s inaugural 2007 season. Toronto FC’s all-time All-Star list, in addition to Laryea, includes Ronnie O’Brien (2007), Jim Brennan (2008), Dwayne De Rosario (2009, 2010), Jermain Defoe (2014), Jozy Altidore (2015, 2017), Michael Bradley (2014, 2015, 2017), Sebastian Giovinco (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), Alejandro Pozuelo (2019) and Federico Bernardeschi (2024).Â
Most recently, Laryea played and started in every match for Canada at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Les Rouges and Laryea made history after securing their first-ever World Cup victory after defeating Qatar 6-0 during the group stage on June 18, 2026, and progressed to the tournament’s Round of 16.Â
Laryea has appeared and started in nine games, scoring two goals and registering two assists during the 2026 MLS season prior to the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Toronto, Ontario native has made a total of 155 appearances for the Reds across all competitions (MLS regular season, MLS Playoffs, MLS is Back, Canadian Championship, Concacaf Champions and Leagues Cup), scoring 15 goals and recording 24 assists across eight seasons through three different stints with TFC (2019-2021, 2022-2023, 2024-2026).Â
Laryea joined Toronto FC originally on March 21, 2019, after spending three seasons with Orlando City SC, where he was selected by The Lions in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft from the University of Akron. The defender made his TFC debut on April 6, 2019, against Chicago Fire FC and played three seasons before joining Nottingham Forrest of the English Premier League on January 8, 2022. He made his club debut on April 18, 2022, against West Bromwich Albion and appeared in five games for Forest during his six months with the club before being re-acquired by TFC on loan through the summer of 2023. After a loan spell with the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2023, Laryea returned to Toronto signing with the Reds on February 23, 2024.
