BEHIND ENEMY LINES
Toronto FC hit the road to face the reigning MLS Cup champions Inter Miami CF on Saturday evening. Saturday’s meeting will mark the Reds’ first-ever visit to Miami’s Nu Stadium in Florida, which opened earlier this season in April. After earning results in three of their last four away games, the Reds currently hold a 58W-177L-82T all-time record (256 points) in MLS regular season matches on the road.

THROUGH THE YEARS
TFC face off against 2020 expansion club Inter Miami CF in the 14th all-time regular season meeting between the two Eastern Conference sides. Historically, Toronto holds a 2W-9L-2T record through their first 13 meetings with the Herons, including a 4-2 defeat at BMO Field earlier this season on May 9. On Saturday, the Reds will look to make club history by securing their first-ever road victory against Inter Miami.
ONE STEP FORWARD
The Reds head into Matchday 22 having earned results in their last three matches (1W-2T) and five of their last six (1W-3T) since returning from the FIFA World Cup 26™ break. On August 15, TFC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over New England Revolution at BMO Field, with Theo Corbeanu’s first-half effort deflecting off Will Sands to open the scoring before Dániel Sallói and Djordje Mihailovic combined to set up Niklas Dorsch for a stunning first-time finish eight minutes later. Dorsch’s strike made him the seventh different player to open his account for the Reds in 2026. Despite being reduced to 10 men following a straight red card to Mihailovic in the 76th minute and conceding a late goal to Wilson Harris, TFC held firm to secure all three points.
On August 19, the Reds battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC at BMO Field. After falling behind early to Rodolfo Aloko’s eighth minute opener, Markus Cimermancic drew TFC level in the 14th minute with a powerful first-time strike from distance for his first goal for the club. Charlotte restored the lead through Liel Abada six minutes later before Walker Zimmerman was sent off for the hosts in the 56th minute, with Henry Kessler heading home from the ensuing free kick to make it 3-1 for Charlotte. The Reds responded through Dániel Sallói, who finished Theo Corbeanu’s low cross for his fifth goal of the season and team-leading 11th goal contribution in the 76th minute, before Niklas Dorsch’s 90th minute delivery into the box found the net to level the match. The equalizer marked Dorsch’s second goal in as many games and Jackson Gilman’s first assist for TFC as the Eastern Conference clubs sides settled for a point apiece in the midweek matchup.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY
On Thursday, TFC midfielder Niklas Dorsch was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 21 following his influential performance in the Reds’ thrilling 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC. With TFC down a man and trailing 3-2 in the closing stages, Dorsch collected a short pass from Jackson Gilman before delivering a dangerous ball into the box that evaded everyone, including Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina, on its way into the net to level the match. Dorsch has now scored in consecutive MLS matches for the first time in his Toronto FC career, following his golazo against New England Revolutionthat earned him a Team of the Matchday selection and Goal of the Matchday nomination for Matchday 20.
The all-action midfielder also earned Player of the Match honours for the second consecutive match, ranking among TFC’s top three starters in completed passes (45), pass completion rate (93.8%), distance covered (11.04 km), ball actions (43) and tackles (2) as he helped the Reds battle through adversity to earn a hard-fought point at home. The honour marks Dorsch’s second successive MLS Team of the Matchday selection with Toronto FC. In total, TFC have now earned eight MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 regular season – Dorsch (2), Aristizábal (1), Cifuentes (1), Gavran (1), Laryea (1), Sargent (1) and Zimmerman (1).

FAMILIAR FACE
Toronto FC goalkeeper William Yarbrough holds a connection to Saturday’s opponents, Inter Miami CF, having joined the Herons as a free agent in May 2025. The Mexican-American shot-stopper spent the 2025 season with Miami and was part of the club’s goalkeeping group during their MLS Cup-winning campaign before joining the Reds earlier this season in January.
