Toronto FC midfielder Niklas Dorsch has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 21 following his influential performance in the Reds’ thrilling 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC at BMO Field on Wednesday.
Following his incredible long-range goal in his home debut for TFC on Saturday, Dorsch once again made his presence felt on both sides of the ball in front of the home faithful. With the Reds down a man and trailing 3-2 in the closing stages, the German midfielder collected a short pass from Jackson Gilman before delivering a dangerous ball into the box that evaded everyone, including Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina, on its way into the net to level the match at 3-3 and help the Reds secure a valuable point.
Dorsch has now scored in consecutive MLS matches for the first time in his Toronto FC career with the 90th minute equalizer, following his golazo against New England Revolution that earned him a Team of the Matchday selection and Goal of the Matchday nomination for Matchday 20.
The all-action midfielder continued to make his mark throughout Wednesday’s contest, earning Player of the Match honours for the second consecutive match. Dorsch ranked among TFC’s top three starters in completed passes (45), pass completion rate (93.8%), distance covered (11.04 km), ball actions (43) and tackles (2) as he helped the Reds battle through adversity to earn a hard-fought point at home.
The honour marks Niklas Dorsch’s second successive MLS Team of the Matchday selection with Toronto FC.
