THROUGH THE YEARS

Historically, TFC hold a 14W-12L-9T record through their first 35 regular season meetings with the Union. Toronto have earned points in four of the last five head-to-head matchups (3W-1L-1T) at BMO Field, dating back to October 27, 2021. The Reds will be looking to secure their first home win over the Union since July 13, 2024, when a Deandre Kerr opener and a Philadelphia own goal sparked a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at BMO Field.
ONE STEP FORWARD
The Reds enter Matchday 9 with strong momentum on their side, unbeaten since March 8 and recording one win and two ties in their last three MLS matches since the March international break.
On April 11, Toronto played to a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati at BMO Field. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute after Kevin Denkey picked up two yellow cards in quick succession. Toronto capitalized in the 83rd minute when Josh Sargent’s header from Daniel Sallói’s cross was turned into his own net by Gilberto Flores. The Orange & Blue responded in stoppage time, however, as Kenji Mboma Dem struck in the 92nd minute to ensure the clubs settled for a point each.

A week later, TFC battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Western Conference Austin FC at BMO Field. Jon Bell opened the scoring for the visitors before Dániel Sallói equalized shortly after half-time, scoring his team-leading third goal since joining the Reds in February. Toronto then took the lead in the 67th minute when Sallói’s deflected cross found Richie Laryea, who weaved his way into space before blasting a left-footed finish into the roof of the net for his second goal of the 2026 campaign and 15th for his hometown club. Austin responded with a quickfire double, as Facundo Torres and Christian Ramírez each scored to restore Austin’s 3-2 advantage in the 82nd minute. The Reds showcased late resolve to equalize in the 88th minute through Kobe Franklin, who fired home through goalkeeper Brad Stuver’s legs after Malik Henry’s header from Sallói’s delivery hit the post. Franklin’s late strike marked his first career MLS goal and helped the Reds secure a point, extending Toronto’s unbeaten run to six matches since March 8.
Following the six-goal thriller, Toronto FC are now unbeaten in their last 12 home matches at BMO Field, recording four wins and eight ties dating back to June 25, 2025.

ATOMIC ANT HONOURED
At half-time of Saturday’s match against Austin FC, Toronto FC Special Advisor and Club Ambassador Sebastian Giovinco was inducted as the eighth member of Legends Row, a South End supporter-driven initiative recognizing former TFC players who have made an exceptional impact on the club’s culture and history. Selected by official Supporters’ groups and members of the South End, the “Atomic Ant” joined an exclusive list of honourees following his memorable tenure with the Reds. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in club history, Giovinco’s legacy includes MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship titles, along with MLS Golden Boot and MLS Most Valuable Player honours during his four seasons with Toronto FC.
YOUNG REDS IN ACTION
Toronto FC II, the MLS NEXT Pro affiliate of Toronto FC, are currently unbeaten in their last three regular season matches. The Young Reds opened that stretch with an emphatic 5-0 road win over New York City FC II on March 19, followed by a 3-3 draw against league-leading Crown Legacy FC in their Home Opener on April 12. TFC II returned to winning ways on April 17 with a 1-0 victory over Philadelphia Union II and will host New York City FC II this Friday at York Lions Stadium (7:00 p.m. ET).
Fletcher Bank, Toronto FC’s 2024 MLS SuperDraft selection, has enjoyed a productive start to the season with a team-leading seven goal contributions (three goals, four assists). The Bakersfield, California native was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek after recording five goal involvements against NYCFC II last month. Earlier this month, Richard Chukwu and Jahmarie Nolan of TFC II signed short-term agreements with Toronto FC for the home match against FC Cincinnati, before Reid Fisher and Jackson Gilman followed suit prior to the Austin FC clash a week later.
