THROUGH THE YEARS

The Reds welcome Red Bull New York, led by Head Coach and former TFC captain Michael Bradley, to BMO Field for the 45th regular season meeting between the two Eastern Conference clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 9W-24L-11T record through their first 44 encounters with Red Bull. On Saturday, Toronto will look to secure their first home win in the series since a 3-1 result on July 17, 2019, when goals from Jozy Altidore, Alejandro Pozuelo and Ashtone Morgan sealed three points for the hosts.

ONE STEP FORWARD

TFC enter their 2026 home curtain-raiser on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 road victory over FC Cincinnati, rebounding from season-opening losses to FC Dallas and the Vancouver Whitecaps. With the Sunday Night Soccer clash level late in the second half, the Reds’ positive play was rewarded in the 86th minute when Dániel Sallói ran onto Richie Laryea’s through ball and calmly finished past Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano. The late strike, Toronto’s first-ever goal at TQL Stadium, marked the Hungarian winger’s first for the Reds and proved decisive in securing TFC’s first victory at the venue, as well as their first win of the 2026 MLS season.

On the night, new defensive signing Benjamín Kuscevic made his club debut and first start for TFC, while Colombian forward Emilio Aristizábal also earned his first start for Toronto. Between the sticks, goalkeeper Luka Gavran recorded his fifth clean sheet for the Reds and the club’s first of the new campaign.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY

On Monday, Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 3 after an all-action performance in the Reds’ 1-0 road win against FC Cincinnati. With the match still goalless in the 86th minute, Laryea’s defensive awareness and playmaking ability helped unlock the Cincinnati defence. Laryea intercepted goalkeeper Roman Celentano’s long throw, drove forward and slipped a through ball to Dániel Sallói, who finished past the Cincinnati goalkeeper for Toronto’s first-ever goal at TQL Stadium. In addition to his first assist of the MLS season, Laryea’s influence was equally evident on the defensive end throughout the night. The Canadian international recorded game-highs in sprints (22) and fouls won (5), while also posting a team-best top speed of 34.64 km/h and ranking fourth on the team for distance covered (10.33 km), helping Toronto FC secure their first clean sheet and first win of the 2026 MLS season. The honour marked Richie Laryea’s first MLS Team of the Matchday selection of the 2026 season and his thirteenth overall for Toronto FC.

MATCHDAY MARCH, SEAT CUSHIONS & A WINTERDOME EXPERIENCE

Toronto FC’s Home Opener this Saturday is set to feature a full slate of fan-focused activations celebrating the club’s rich history and the launch of the new Winterdome matchday experience. Fans are invited to kick off matchday by joining the traditional “March to the Match” at Liberty Village, led by TFC alumni Dwayne De Rosario, Jim Brennan and Doneil Henry, before arriving at the new Winterdome activation in the King Club at BMO Field. All fans attending the match on Saturday will receive a commemorative seat cushion giveaway on exit inspired by Danny Dichio’s iconic 24th minute strike on May 12, 2007, marking the Reds’ first goal in club history.

Running from March through April, the club’s Winterdome themed matches will showcase the winter identity that has helped shape Toronto’s football culture. As TFC prepares for their 20th anniversary season Home Opener on Saturday, fans attending the afternoon match are encouraged to plan their arrival in advance as final offseason upgrades continue at BMO Field. While all stadium gates will be operational, fans must enter through the gate listed on their ticket due to temporarily limited pathways during the final stages of construction. Gates will open 90 minutes prior to kick-off, giving fans time to experience new stadium features and promotions, including the debut of the club’s Winterdome activation in the King Club. Fans driving to the match should plan for temporary road closures on the Strachan Avenue, Fleet Street and Manitoba Drive intersections, with parking available at the Enercare Centre lot or any surrounding above ground lot. All Metrolinx trains leading to Exhibition Station will be running on the weekend schedule and TTC users are reminded to check their app for updates as changes on routes 509 and 511 are expected.

BRADLEY BACK AT BMO FIELD

Newly appointed Red Bull New York Head Coach Michael Bradley returns to BMO Field on Saturday for the first time since playing the final match of his professional career against Orlando City SC on October 21, 2023. Bradley enjoyed a decorated playing career that included 10 seasons (2014-2023) with the Reds. He joined the club as a Designated Player on January 13, 2014, and recorded 19 goals in 307 appearances while serving as team captain throughout his tenure. The Princeton, New Jersey native played an instrumental role in the club’s historic 2017 Treble-winning campaign, when TFC captured the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship. Across his decade with the Reds, the American international lifted nine trophies as captain, including one MLS Cup (2017), three Eastern Conference Championships (2016, 2017, 2019), one Supporters’ Shield (2017) and four Canadian Championships (2016, 2017, 2018, 2020). To date, the midfielder remains the only TFC player to have played every minute of every MLS Cup Playoff match in club history. Following his retirement at the end of the 2023 MLS season, Bradley moved into coaching as an Assistant Coach with Stabæk Fotball in Norway’s First Division. In June 2025, he was appointed Head Coach of Red Bull New York II and guided the side to its first-ever MLS NEXT Pro championship in November. Bradley was named Head Coach of Red Bull New York on December 15, 2025, and opened his MLS coaching career with a 2-1 road victory over Orlando City on February 21.

ONCE A RED (BULL)

Saturday’s curtain-raiser at BMO Field will feature four additional pros with ties to both Eastern Conference clubs. Toronto’s Derrick Etienne Jr. and Raheem Edwards have each previously spent time with Red Bull New York during their MLS careers. A product of the Red Bull Academy, Etienne Jr. recorded six goals and four assists in 79 appearances across five seasons (2016 – 2019) after signing as a Homegrown player in December 2015. The Haitian international helped the club capture the 2018 Supporters’ Shield and was also part of the Red Bull New York II side that won both the USL regular season and championship titles in 2016. Edwards, who re-joined Toronto FC in February after beginning his MLS career with his hometown club in 2016, spent the 2025 season with Red Bull New York, where he registered three assists in 29 appearances.

On the other side, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty progressed through the TFC Academy ranks and made club history on January 22, 2020, when he became the youngest player to sign a First Team contract with TFC at 15 years old. The Brampton, Ontario native recorded one goal and eight assists in 83 appearances across five seasons (2020 – 2024) before joining CF Montréal in August 2024. The defender signed with Red Bull New York from Montréal on February 9, 2026, and has started each of the club’s first three matches of the 2026 MLS season. Meanwhile, Red Bull New York’s Head of Sport Julian de Guzman also has ties to Toronto FC, having made 93 appearances and won three Canadian Championship titles (2010, 2011, 2012) across four seasons (2009 – 2012) with the Reds.
