BEHIND ENEMY LINES
Toronto FC travel to Queen City to face Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday evening for their second and final regular season meeting of 2025. After three consecutive road matches in July, the Reds hold a 57W-170L-74T all-time record (245 points) in MLS regular season road matches to date.

AN ODE TO THE PAST
TFC visit 2022 MLS expansion side Charlotte FC for the eighth meeting in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 3W-3L-1T head-to-head record through their first seven regular season encounters with the Crown. The Reds will look to secure their first road win in Charlotte since Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi powered a 2-0 victory in their inaugural visit to Bank of America Stadium on August 27, 2022.
STEP BY STEP
The Reds enter Saturday’s Eastern Conference showdown with momentum briefly halted in Matchday 26, after earning results in four of their five matches between June 25 and July 16. Last weekend, TFC fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nashville SC, decided by a first-half strike from MLS Golden Boot co-leader Sam Surridge at GEODIS Park.
Three nights earlier, Toronto FC claimed a 1-0 win over Western Conference leaders San Diego FC at Snapdragon Stadium, with Theo Corbeanu converting the penalty he earned after drawing a foul from Franco Negri. On the night, American goalkeeper Sean Johnson recorded his sixth clean sheet of the campaign, securing TFC’s third victory over Western Conference opposition in 2025. The midweek contest also marked the long-awaited return of club captain Jonathan Osorio, who came on in the 75th minute for his first appearance since May 31 versus Charlotte FC.
AMONG THE GREATS
Fresh off his 21st clean sheet for Toronto FC on July 16 against San Diego FC, goalkeeper Sean Johnson made league history by climbing to third place on Major League Soccer’s all-time list for regular season minutes played (38,046). The Lilburn, Georgia native surpassed current Seattle Sounders goalkeeper and former Red Stefan Frei (37,991) and now only trails retired MLS legends Nick Rimando (46,336) and Kyle Beckerman (41,164). Following Matchday 26, Johnson and Frei are joined by Columbus Crew’s Darlington Nagbe (36,612) and Portland Timbers’ Diego Chará (35,577) as the only four active players in the league’s top 10 for MLS regular season minutes. Johnson is currently enjoying a standout campaign between the sticks for Toronto FC, having started all 23 league matches, recording six clean sheets and ranking among the league’s top fives for saves with 79.

DE ROSARIOS AT MLS ALL-STAR
On Tuesday, July 22, goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario represented Toronto FC II at the MLS NEXT Pro Goalie Wars during the 2025 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge in Austin, Texas. The fan-favourite competition featured De Rosario, Eldin Jakupović of Chattanooga FC, Pedro Cruz of Houston Dynamo 2 and Carlos Mercado of Orlando City B. Adisa, accompanied by his father and seven-time MLS All-Star Dwayne De Rosario, became only the second TFC II player to compete in the showcase event, following Luka Gavran’s appearance in 2022.
In the semi-final round, De Rosario was defeated 5-1 by Houston Dynamo 2’s Pedro Cruz. Cruz went on to claim the title with a 4-3 win over Orlando City B’s Carlos Mercado, earning the custom championship belt presented by popular streamer iShowSpeed at Q2 Stadium.
In February 2025, De Rosario became the 35th TFC Academy graduate to sign with Toronto FC and he is currently enjoying a standout campaign between the sticks for Toronto FC II. The 20-year-old Toronto native has made 47 saves and has recorded a joint league-leading five clean sheets through 15 MLS NEXT Pro appearances this season.

ONCE A RED
Toronto FC will face a familiar opponent on Saturday evening when they take on Charlotte FC’s Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty, marking their second meeting of 2025 with the Canadian winger since his departure from the Reds in August 2024. A graduate of the Toronto FC Academy, Marshall-Rutty cemented his name in club history on January 22, 2020, when he became the youngest player ever to sign a First Team contract at 15 years old. The Brampton, Ontario native made his MLS debut against the Philadelphia Union on October 24, 2020, and went on to record one goal and eight assists across 83 combined appearances over five seasons (2020-2024) for the Reds.
After being traded to CF Montréal last summer, he made 15 league appearances for the Bleu-blanc-noir across two seasons (2024, 2025) before joining Charlotte FC on loan in April, where he has tallied three assists in 14 MLS appearances so far.
