THROUGH THE YEARS

TFC welcome 2017 MLS expansion side Atlanta United for the 19th  all-time regular season meeting between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 5W-5L-8T record across their first 18 regular season meetings with the Five Stripes, while holding the edge in postseason play after defeating Atlanta in the 2019 MLS Eastern Conference Final. In Toronto, the conference rivals have met eight times, with the Reds posting four wins, three draws and one loss at BMO Field, outscoring Atlanta 16-11 in those matches. This Saturday, the Reds will be aiming for their first home win over Atlanta United since March 23, 2024, when goals from Tyrese Spicer and Prince Owusu secured a 2-0 victory at BMO Field.

ONE STEP FORWARD

The Reds enter Matchday 10 in impressive form, riding a seven-match unbeaten run since March 8 and coming off back-to-back six-goal thrillers at BMO Field.

On Saturday, April 18, Toronto FC battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Western Conference Austin FC at BMO Field. Jon Bell opened the scoring for the visitors before Dániel Sallói equalized shortly after half-time, netting his team-leading third goal since joining the Reds in February. Toronto took the lead in the 67th minute when Sallói’s deflected cross fell to Richie Laryea, who created space before blasting a left-footed finish into the roof of the net for his second goal of the 2026 campaign and 15th for his hometown club. Austin responded with a quickfire double, as Facundo Torres and Christian Ramírez each struck to restore a 3-2 advantage in the 82nd minute. The Reds showed late resolve, equalizing in the 88th minute through Kobe Franklin, who fired through Brad Stuver’s legs after Malik Henry’s header from Sallói’s delivery struck the post. Franklin’s late strike, his first career MLS goal, secured a point for the Reds and extended Toronto’s unbeaten run to six matches.

Four nights later, TFC and Philadelphia Union played to another action-packed 3-3 tie in midweek action at BMO Field. Philadelphia struck against the run of play through Milan Iloski in first-half stoppage time before Danley Jean Jacques doubled the visitors’ lead seven minutes into the restart. The Reds responded soon after, as Josh Sargent finished a slick passing move with José Cifuentes and Dániel Sallói to cut the deficit. The 56th minute strike marked Sargent’s second goal for the club and Sallói’s fifth goal contribution of the 2026 season. Toronto drew level eight minutes later when Kobe Franklin met Cifuentes’ pass and drove a thumping effort in off the far post, his second goal in as many matches, and Cifuentes’ third assist of the campaign. With both sides pushing for a winner, the Union took the lead in the 89th minute as Nathan Harriel headed home from Alejandro Bedoya’s corner. The Reds responded in dramatic fashion, however, with goalkeeper Luka Gavran venturing forward and nodding in Alonso Coello’s delivery in the 96th minute. The goal marked Gavran’s first goal for Toronto FC, making him the first goalkeeper in club history to score and secured a hard-earned point to extend the club’s unbeaten run to seven matches.

Following consecutive high-scoring draws, Toronto FC are now unbeaten in their last 13 home matches at BMO Field (4W-9T), dating back to June 25, 2025.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY

On Thursday, TFC goalkeeper Luka Gavran and midfielder José Cifuentes were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 9 following their standout performances in the Reds’ dramatic 3-3 draw against Philadelphia Union at BMO Field. Cifuentes was at the heart of TFC coming back from a two-goal deficit, first linking up with Dániel Sallói and Josh Sargent in a slick move that ended with Sargent making it 2-1, before slipping an incisive pass into the box eight minutes later for Kobe Franklin to power home the equalizer. Cifuentes recorded his first multi-assist performance for TFC before Nathan Harriel’s 89th minute header restored a 3-2 lead for Philadelphia. With time running out, Reds goalkeeper Gavran pushed forward to join the attack on a late set-piece in the final minute of stoppage time. After narrowly missing a connection on the first cross, the towering shot-stopper recycled his run effectively before nodding home Alonso Coello’s dangerous delivery off his head and shoulder. The equalizer marked Gavran’s first professional goal, making him the first goalkeeper in club history to score for Toronto FC. With the 96th minute effort, Gavran became only the third goalkeeper in Major League Soccer history to score a goal and the first since Columbus Crew’s William Hesmer on October 16, 2010. The honour represents the first MLS Team of the Matchday selections for both Luka Gavran and José Cifuentes with TFC. In total, Toronto FC have now earned five MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 MLS regular season – José Cifuentes (1), Luka Gavran (1), Richie Laryea (1), Josh Sargent (1), Walker Zimmerman (1).

CENTURY CLUB

On Wednesday, Canadian forward Deandre Kerr made his 100th MLS appearance for Toronto FC against the Philadelphia Union. The TFC Academy product becomes the third active player to reach the milestone with the club, joining Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea, and the 12th in club history to make 100 MLS appearances for the Reds.

With the assist on Josh Sargent’s strike against Philadelphia Union, Dániel Sallói reached 100 MLS regular season goal contributions (57 goals, 43 assists) since joining the league in 2016, split between Sporting Kansas City (2016 – 2025) and Toronto FC (2026 – present). The 56th minute helper marked a team-leading fifth goal contribution (three goals, two assists) for the Hungarian winger since joining the Reds in February 2026.
