MATCH RECAP | Toronto FC 2 – 1 Columbus Crew

TFC26-ROS-FullTime-16x9 (1)

TFC Head Coach Robin Fraser made three changes from last weekend’s side against Red Bull New York with Alonso Coello, Deandre Kerr and Josh Sargent coming in for Zane Monlouis, Djordje Mihailovic and Emilio Aristizábal. New signing Sargent started his first match for TFC, while club captain made a historic 400th appearance for his hometown club.

Columbus Crew took an early lead through Wessam Abou Ali’s looping header from Max Arfsten’s fourth-minute cross.

TFC searched for a breakthrough throughout the opening half, with efforts from Josh Sargent, Raheem Edwards, Deandre Kerr, Jonathan Osorio and Daniel Sallói. The hosts came within inches of an equalizer in the 41st minute, as Raheem Edwards’ acrobatic volley from a corner was tipped away by an outstretched Patrick Schulte.

The Reds found their equalizer eleven minutes into the second half, as José Cifuentes’ controlled and emphatically fired home Dániel Sallói’s low cross to draw level.

The 56th minute strike marked the Ecuadorian midfielder’s first goal for Toronto FC and the Hungarian winger’s first assist for the club.

Toronto FC took their first lead of the afternoon when substitute Djordje Mihailovic’s out-swinging corner was met by a glancing header from Walker Zimmerman.

The 83rd minute goal marked the American defender’s first for the Reds, while Mihailovic recorded an assist for the second consecutive match following his setup for Sallói’s opener against Red Bull New York last weekend.

The hosts’ strong defensive resolve saw the Reds close out the final stages professionally to secure a 2-1 victory, sealing all three points and the club’s first home win of the 2026 MLS campaign.

Toronto FC resume action following the March FIFA international break, hosting the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, April 4. Kick-off from BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario is set for 1:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on Apple TV.
