Toronto FC (5W-13L-10T, 25 points) and rivals CF Montréal (5W-15L-9T, 24 points) battled to a 1-1 draw in the latest edition of the 401 Derby at BMO Field on Saturday evening.

TFC Head Coach Robin Fraser made one change from last weekend’s starting XI against Atlanta United, with Kosi Thompson stepping in for Sigurd Rosted. On the other side, three former Reds – Luca Petrasso, Matty Longstaff and Prince Owusu, were named to Marco Donadel’s starting lineup for CF Montréal.

The hosts controlled majority of proceedings through the opening half, outshooting Montréal eight to two, but failed to capitalize on the goalscoring chances that fell to Ola Brynhildsen, Theo Corbeanu, Jonathan Osorio, Djordje Mihailovic and Kobe Franklin.

A feisty opening 45 minutes also saw yellow cards issued to Montréal’s Hennadii Synchuk, Luca Petrasso and Prince Owusu, along with Maxime Dominguez for Toronto.

Toronto FC picked up where they left off after the restart but saw a pair of penalty appeals involving Djordje Mihailovic and Jonathan Osorio waved away by referee Drew Fischer within the opening 10 minutes.

Pushing for a breakthrough, the Reds turned to the bench in the 74th minute, introducing José Cifuentes for his club debut and Deandre Kerr for his 100th appearance with his hometown club.

CF Montréal then struck against the run of play, as Dante Sealy headed in Bryce Duke’s free-kick delivery in the 84th minute.

The Reds, however, responded five minutes later when substitute Jules-Anthony Vilsaint forced a low save from Montréal goalkeeper Thomas Gillier and Jonathan Osorio pounced on the rebound with a powerful left-footed finish.

The 89th minute equalizer marked the club captain’s 68th goal for Toronto FC and his third of the 2025 MLS season.

Both sides pushed for a late winner in front of a packed BMO Field, with Jules-Anthony Vilsaint striking the post in the 91st minute before Iván Jaime rattled the crossbar for Bleu-blanc-noir a minute later. The referee’s final whistle moments later brought the 401 Derby to a close, with the Canadian rivals taking a point apiece on the night.

Following the September international break next weekend, Toronto FC return to action with a road trip to face the New England Revolution on Saturday, September 13. Kick-off from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and on TSN in Canada.
