Academy Stars Train With First Team

Toronto FC interim head coach Nick Dasovic will make changes to the line-up for the final game of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage at home to Arabe Unido on Tuesday night (kick off 8:00 p.m. live on GOLTV Canada).

“We’re looking at changing it up a little bit,” said Dasovic after training at BMO Field on Monday. “We have asked a lot of the players over the last 10 games and some of them have been playing over and over again in a very busy schedule.”

Dasovic has indicated that youngsters Nicholas Lindsay and Doneil Henry will play some part in the match, and a couple of Academy players may also be included in the squad. Midfielders Oscar Cordon and Ashtone Morgan trained with the first team on Monday.

“It is a good chance for us to give a couple of Academy kids the opportunity to test themselves. We have already signed the two players from the Academy and we are looking to play them. We have also got a couple more that we are looking to bring in.”

“By no means are we throwing this game away or disrespecting Arabe Unido. It is just an opportunity at this stage in the season to test the kids and see where they are at and what part they can play next season.”

The Reds are still without a number of first team regulars due to injury but Spanish striker Mista returned to training on Monday and could be involved against Arabe Unido.

“Mista trained today and looks like he is injury free so we will look at including him tomorrow at some stage. He hasn’t trained for a couple of weeks so he wouldn’t last 90 minutes, but we will look to get him into the game,” explained Dasovic.
