Saborio Injured For Tonight?

After a tumultuous day in the history of Toronto FC with the departure of Director of Soccer Mo Johnston and Head Coach Preki, the Reds squad arrived in Utah on Tuesday evening ahead of their CONCACAF Champions League match against Real Salt Lake tonight.

The match kicks off at 10:00 p.m. ET and is live on
GOLTV Canada
.

Chad Barrett is with the squad as he continues his comeback from a hamstring injury and the forward is currently rated as questionable. Fuad Ibrahim is also a doubt with the groin strain that has sidelined him for the last couple of matches. Amadou Sanyang remains out with concussion symptoms. Toronto will have to make a change in defence with defender Nana Attakora missing the match due to family reasons.

Real Salt Lake have been troubled by injuries recently and could be missing some key players for tonight’s match. The latest official MLS  injury report shows Fabian Espindola and Javier Morales both out of the match. Espindola missed Salt Lake’s goalless draw at Seattle last week with a hamstring injury and is not yet ready to return. Javier Morales is out with a quadriceps strain.

The news could get even better for Toronto. Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio pulled out of training yesterday with an ankle sprain and is now rated doubtful. Saborio’s absence would be a blow for the reigning MLS Cup champions as he has already scored four goals in two Champions League matches this year. Ned Grabavoy could also miss the match due to illness.

Toronto are facing a difficult task if they are to get the new era off to a positive start under the leadership of interim Head Coach
Nick Dasovic
. They are up against a Real Salt Lake team that is unbeaten in 22 MLS games at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Royals have scored the most goals and conceded the least in MLS this season.

The first ever road win in Toronto’s history came at Real Salt Lake. In a match played at Rice Eccles Stadium in July 2007, Jeff Cunningham and Collin Samuel scored the goals in a 2-1 victory.

All four teams in Group A of the Champions League have three points from two matches. In the other match in the group tonight, Arabe Unido and Cruz Azul meet in Panama.
