Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 35 after an influential performance in the club’s 1-1 road tie against Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field.
Trailing by a goal in Ohio, the Reds began the second half on the front foot and drew level just six minutes into the restart through Richie Laryea. The move began with fellow Toronto native Jonathan Osorio collecting a short pass from Derrick Etienne Jr. before threading a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Laryea, whose marauding run from full-back ended with an unstoppable, low strike past Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.
The 51st minute effort, sparked by the hometown link between Laryea and Osorio, was the Canadian international’s 13th goal for TFC and his first of the 2025 MLS season, helping the Reds stretch their unbeaten run to six matches dating back to August 9.
The honour marks Richie Laryea’s first MLS Team of the Matchday selection of the 2025 season and his fourteenth overall for Toronto FC. In total, Toronto FC have now earned 13 MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2025 MLS regular season – Sean Johnson (3), Federico Bernardeschi (2), Theo Corbeanu (2), Ola Brynhildsen (1), Alonso Coello (1), Lorenzo Insigne (1), Deandre Kerr (1), Richie Laryea (1) and Jonathan Osorio (1).
