TFC face 2023 MLS expansion club St. Louis CITY SC for only the second time in the all-time series between the two clubs. The sides previously met on July 8, 2023, with the Western Conference side edging Toronto 1-0 at BMO Field in a match that also saw goalkeeper Tomás Romero and defender Adam Pearlman make their club debuts for TFC. The Reds enter Matchday 27 after earning results in nine of their last 11 MLS matches (3W-6T-2L), including a seven-match unbeaten run featuring three wins and four ties between July 16 and September 9. On Wednesday, September 9, Toronto FC capped a three-game homestand with a dramatic 2-1 victory against Supporters’ Shield-leading Nashville SC. Trailing to an early Nashville goal, the Reds equalized when Dániel Sallói headed home Theo Corbeanu’s 70th minute cross for his seventh goal of the season. TFC then completed the comeback in stoppage time, with Emilio Aristizábal firing home in the 93rd minute following a set-up from Richie Laryea and Sallói to secure all three points.
Three nights later, TFC fell to a 3-0 road loss against 2015 MLS expansion side Orlando City SC at Inter.co Stadium in Florida. The Reds were unable to find a clinical edge on the night, with Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau making key saves to deny Derrick Etienne Jr., Markus Cimermancic and Raheem Edwards, while Josh Sargent saw a late effort strike the crossbar. The Lions opened the scoring through Antoine Griezmann in first-half stoppage time before Daryl Dike and Iván Angulo struck in the closing stages to seal the 3-0 win for the hosts in the Sunshine State.

On Tuesday, TFC defenders Richie Laryea and Richard Chukwu were named to “The Homecoming” roster to represent Canada Soccer's Men's National Team (CANMNT) during the upcoming September-October 2026 FIFA International Window. Canada will host Chile at BMO Field in Toronto on September 26 and Peru at Stade Saputo in Montréal on October 3, marking the nation’s first matches on home soil since the historic FIFA World Cup 2026™ this past summer. Les Rouges will then close out the window against the United States of America at Allianz Field in Minnesota on October 6. Laryea has earned 80 caps for CANMNT, while Chukwu receives his first senior international call-up after previously representing Canada at the U-15, U-17 and U-20 levels, including two FIFA U-17 World Cups.
Defender Benjamín Kuscevic, who has earned 16 caps for Chile, was also named to the Chilean Men’s National Team roster for a trio of friendlies against North American opposition. La Roja will face Canada on September 26 in Toronto, the United States on September 29 in Missouri and Mexico on October 6 in California.

Saturday’s clash against St. Louis CITY SC could see the Reds come up against a familiar face in Lukas MacNaughton. The Canadian defender joined Toronto FC from Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League in January 2022, making 31 appearances across two seasons (2022, 2023). He helped TFC lift the postponed 2020 Canadian Championship, starting and playing 92 minutes in the final against Forge FC on June 4, 2022. Following his time with the Reds, the former University of Toronto captain had MLS spells with Nashville SC (2023, 2024) and D.C. United (2025) before joining St. Louis CITY SC in February 2026, where he has made 22 MLS appearances to date.
