Toronto FC continue their 2025 Major League Soccer season with their fourth consecutive home match on Wednesday. Following Saturday’s victory against D.C. United, the Reds hold a 123W-95L-79T all-time record (448 points) in MLS regular season matches played on home soil to date.

AN ODE TO THE PAST
TFC face 2019 MLS expansion club FC Cincinnati for the 14th encounter in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 4W-8L-1T head-to-head record through their first 13 meetings with the Orange and Blue in regular season play. The two Eastern Conference clubs recently met at TQL Stadium on March 8, with Cincinnati running out as 2-0 victors on the night. The Reds will be looking to record their first home victory against FC Cincinnati since goals from Jacob Shaffelburg, Mark Delgado and Ifunanyachi Achara secured the Reds a 3-2 result against the Orange and Blue on September 29, 2021.
STEP BY STEP
The Reds enter Wednesday’s matchup fresh off a 2-0 shutout victory against D.C. United on Saturday evening. After a positive first half that remained goalless, TFC flew out of the traps and opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Theo Corbeanu’s cross was met by a low, diving header from Lorenzo Insigne to make it 1-0. The opener marked Insigne’s first goal of the 2025 season and Corbeanu’s first MLS assist for TFC. The hosts doubled their advantage twenty minutes later via an own goal scored by D.C. United’s Lucas Bartlett. TFC’s defensive rearguard remained firm throughout the clash, ultimately securing all three points and the team’s fourth clean sheet of the season.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY
On Monday, Toronto FC pair Sean Johnson and Lorenzo Insigne were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 12, as a starter and substitute respectively, after their impressive performances in the Reds’ 2-0 shutout victory against D.C. United at BMO Field. The American shot-stopper recorded five saves on the afternoon, turning away all five of D.C. United’s shots on target, and has recorded 42 saves and four clean sheets through the club’s opening 12 MLS matches.
Deployed in a central ‘number 10’ role, Lorenzo Insigne delivered an all-action performance, contributing to both goals scored by the hosts. The opener came from a swift counter-attack, as Theo Corbeanu whipped in a pinpoint cross that Insigne met with a low, diving header to give the Reds the lead. The Italian then completed his Man of the Match performance by delivering a dangerous cross that was turned into the net by D.C. United’s Lucas Bartlett to help secure all three points by the lake shore. The honour marks Johnson’s second MLS Team of the Matchday selection of the 2025 season and his sixth overall since joining Toronto FC. Meanwhile, Insigne earns his first selection of the campaign and tenth overall since joining the Reds. In total, Toronto FC have now earned four MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2025 MLS regular season – Sean Johnson (2), Federico Bernardeschi (1) and Lorenzo Insigne (1).
FIFTY UP
On Saturday, Honduran Deybi Flores made his 50th appearance across all competitions for Toronto FC since joining the club in January 2024. The defensive midfielder became the 12th active player to reach the 50-match mark for the Reds, following in the footsteps of teammates Jonathan Osorio, Richie Laryea, Federico Bernardeschi, Kosi Thompson, Deandre Kerr, Lorenzo Insigne, Raoul Petretta, Sean Johnson, Alonso Coello, Sigurd Rosted and Kobe Franklin.

ONCE A RED
Saturday’s clash with FC Cincinnati will see the Reds go head-to-head with a familiar face in Nick Hagglund. The Cincinnati, Ohio native was originally selected 10th overall by Toronto FC in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and made 115 combined appearances across five seasons (2014 – 2018) for TFC, helping the club win the domestic treble in 2017 with the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship. The defender joined his hometown club, FC Cincinnati, via trade in January 2019 and currently ranks top-three in club history in games played, starts and minutes. Hagglund was named the Orange and Blue’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and is the only player in club history to be on the club’s roster in all seven seasons for FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer. Following ankle ligament surgery in July 2024, Hagglund has returned to action and made eight MLS appearances (all starts) for the Orange and Blue in 2025.
