Recap: 2018 GA Cup Day Two

U-17s vs. Chicago

U-17 Division

The Toronto FC Academy U-17 team registered their second victory on the Day 2 of the Generation Adidas Cup qualifying event after beating Chicago Fire Academy 2-0.


The Reds started the game putting pressure on Chicago’s defense and controlling possession. Jacen Russell-Rowe opened the lead for TFC in the 16th minute, assisted by Julian Altobelli, finishing a cross with a right footed shot in the bottom right corner.


Shortly after, Sidney Paris scored on a penalty firing it in the left corner. The Reds kept possession and had good chances in the second half but no goals were scored.


Elsewhere, FC Dallas defeated the Montreal Impact 2-1 and the Columbus Crew blanked Sporting Kansas City 3-0. Full standings from the day are below.

U-15 Division

The Toronto FC Academy U-15 team continued to impress on the second day of the Generation Adidas Cup qualifying event. The U-15s registered a 6-0 victory over Minnesota United.


The game started concentrated in the midfield with both teams looking for some space. Hugo Mbongue opened the scoring for TFC in the 19th minute after finding a space in the Minnesota defense and firing it into the bottom left corner.


Hugo was unstoppable this game. After opening the scoring, Hugo scored twice more in the 55th and 70th minutes.


Jahkeele Marshall–Rutty, a right-winger, also had a strong game scoring a hattrick. He scored twice within two minutes in the 33rd and 35th minutes before adding another on a PK in the second half.


Elsewhere, Sporting KC knocked off the Houston Dynamo 1-0 and the Chicago Fire defeated Columbus 4-3 on penalties. Below is the standings for the U-15s after day two.
