Match Recap: TFC Academy Close Out the PDL Season

TFC Academy 2 Players

TFC Academy finished up their inaugural PDL season on a raining afternoon at Kia Training Grounds on Tuesday.

Your Reds ultimately fell short of ending the season on a winning note, losing 3-2 to K-W United FC in an entertaining clash between the two clubs.

Head Coach Stuart Neely called up 5 players from the Academyā€™s League1 Ontario squad to start in Tuesdayā€™s match: Steven Furlano, Kevin Timachy, Nikola Stakic, Andrew Dias and Nicholas Osorio.

TFCA started strong right out the gates and was rewarded in the 3rd minute off a corner. Forward Kevin Timachy, who was recently called up to USLā€™s Toronto FC II, managed to tap in the loose ball after K-W United goalkeeper Nathan Ingham made an initial save off a header.

Unfortunately for Your Reds the lead didnā€™t hold up for long as K-W United midfielder Kevin Krolicki scored a minute later to tie up the match.

The visitors then took the lead in the 27th minute after a penalty was called against TFCA. Former TFC Academy player Sergio Camargo stepped up and slotted home his 8th goal of the season to put K-W United ahead.

K-W Unitedā€™s lead was extended in the 36th minute through midfielder Kyle Rutz. Rutz was able to collect a clearance by TFCA goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod and place a right-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net.

TFCA was able to cut the lead down to one in the 50th minute after forward Rahim Thorpe got taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty. Midfielder Martin Davis stepped up and made no mistake, putting away his 4th goal of the season for Your Reds.

Your Reds nearly tied the match in the 79th minute after Steven Furlanoā€™s cross was met at the near post by Kevin Timachy, but an impressive save by K-W United goalkeeper Nathan Ingham preserved the lead and ultimately the win for the away side.

Toronto FC Academy finish their inaugural PDL season with a record of 3-8-3 over 14 matches.
