Maicon To Miss Wednesday Match

Maicon Santos watched on from the sidelines as Toronto FC trained at Cherry Beach on Monday morning. The Brazilian forward was forced to leave Saturday’s win over Chivas USA  with a left knee injury and won’t be available for Wednesday’s visit to face New York at Red Bull Arena (kick off 7:30 p.m. live on

Dan Gargan also missed Monday’s training session with a slight leg injury although he is ruled out of the Red Bulls game due to suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday.

Midfielder Martin Saric is now back in full training and Amadou Sanyang continues to make progress as he recovers from concussion symptoms. “Amadou came in today and said he has no headaches,” said Toronto coach Preki. “That is an encouraging sign. We will have to continue to monitor him and see how he progresses.”

“We are a little bit thin right now and lost some guys that we didn’t expect to lose, but that’s how the game goes and we have to go there with the squad that we have and be strong and hard as a group to play against. We have plenty of good players here and we should feel comfortable that whoever steps on the field can do a good job for us. We have enough quality here to get a decent result in New York.”

“We have two important games against a pretty good team. We all know what kind of names they have in their squad so we know we are facing a very tough game. We have to be mentally and physically prepared for the first game in New York on Wednesday,” said Preki.
