Dallas Recap: U-16s fall out in quarters, U-12s pick up win

U-16 Huddle

We are into the home stretch down in Dallas as both the Generation adidas and Dallas Cups near a close.

U-16s fall in the quarters

The Toronto FC Academy U-16 team took on Mexican side CF Monterrey on Thursday afternoon.

The first half was a back and forth affair as both sides came close to opening the scoring.

The Redsā€™ best chance came late in the first half when Ryan Fazzalari curled a shot off the frame of the goal. Monterrey reacted well to clear the rebound.

Monterrey opened the scoring just before the halftime whistle. A Monterrey player played a ball over the top for their winger, who was very close to being offside. The winger then swung in a cross for their forward to redirect home.

The Reds played against the wind in the second half. Their best look at an equalizer came when Nakye Greenidge-Duncan worked his way into the box. He created some space but his effort was a touch high.

TFC pressed late for the equalizer but ultimately Monterrey was able to hold off the Reds. The U-16s finish their Dallas Cup with a record of 3-1-0.

U-12s finish group stage

The Toronto FC Academy U-12s finished up their GA Cup group stage in Frisco with a pair of matches against Colorado and Portland.

The Reds opened the day with a strong 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. TFC got goals from Michael Crocco, Dony Dosmatov, and Dylan Vanney. Anthony Cipressi earned the clean sheet in the win.

The U-12s closed out their GA Cup group stage with a game against Portland. Crocco scored his second of the day but Portland scored twice to take the final match 2-1.

The Reds finished the group stage in fourth place in their group and will play a pair of placement matches on Saturday.
