Toronto FC U-15 Academy defeated Athlete Institute, 2-0, in the BMO Champions Cup final on Sunday at the BMO Training Ground.
The U-15’s have now won the BMO Champions Cup in back-to-back years. TFC was led by Hugo Mbongue, who opened the scoring in the ninth minute, beating the Athlete Institute goalkeeper with a right-footed strike. Mbongue was the team’s leading goal scorer in the tournament with four goals. The Reds added an insurance goal through Shayan Soltanzadeh, who placed a header to the bottom left corner in the 33rd minute. TFC goalkeeper Dino Bontis collected his third straight clean sheet.
Toronto FC U-15 Academy finished the tournament with a record of 3-0.

What were your general thoughts on the match?
“It was good. It was a good competitive soccer game for the boys”.
Did any individual stand out to you?
“I thought Dino the goalkeeper was composed the whole time. As we made adjustments we got a little bit more clarity from the boys. As a group, we worked hard and got the job done today.
Hugo Mbongue led the team in goals this tournament. Do you have any thoughts on his development throughout the tournament?
“Hugo is continuing to work every day on the training pitch. He is showcasing his ability to learn, grow, and compete at the end of the day. Sometimes we use games as tests and he's been answering all of the calls”.
What are your overall impressions of the tournament?
“It’s really good. It’s a really interesting set up because you have champions from different leagues throughout Ontario and it’s a six-team structure so it gets interesting. You play two games and the top two teams play in the final game, so by design, it makes for a good event. We also get to see other players that are playing for other great organizations in the area. This is our third year with the tournament and its been a good event for us”.

Toronto FC U-13 Academy defeated Brampton Elite, 3-0, in the BMO Champions Cup final on Sunday at the BMO Training Ground.
The Reds scored in the second minute when Tristan Pustzhegyi beat the Brampton Elite goalkeeper with a right-footed strike to the left corner. After the early goal, TFC didn’t look back, with Dony Dosmatov scoring in the 39th minute and Mason Vanney providing the final margin of victory with a goal in the 54th minute.
Toronto FC U-13 Academy finished the tournament with a record of 3-0 for a fully-deserved 2019 BMO Champions Cup championship.

What were your general thoughts on the match?
“I thought we could have been a little more structured, a little bit more purposeful in the way we played. All our players contributed in a good way, I think we did a great job getting everyone involved in the game. I just think we could’ve been a little more intentional in the way we played”.
What individual stood out to you?
“It’s an effort from everyone, not just today but over the course of the three games that we played in this event. We're very happy that we came out on top”.
What were your overall impressions of the tournament?
“I think this is a great event. We are bringing in teams from all over the community. Not only is this an opportunity for us to showcase our football, but we also get an opportunity to scout and see what else is out there in terms of players that could be available to us”.
