Bernardeschi named to MLS Team of the Matchday bench after historic "Olimpico" goal

Federico Bernardeschi continued his hot start to the 2023 campaign, scoring in spectacular fashion in front of the south end on Saturday night vs. Charlotte FC.

In the 6th minute, Bernardeschi stood over a corner kick with the wind whipping off the lakeshore. The Italian international struck the ball ever so sweetly with his cultured left foot, sending the ball spinning into the Toronto night. With a little help from the elements, the effort curled into the far post past Charlotte goalkeeper George Marks to open the scoring on the night.

Bernardeschi etched his name in the record books, scoring the first "Olimpico" in club history (Toronto FC's 633rd competitive match).

Ultimately, the Reds finished the match with a 2-2 draw vs. Charlotte, but Bernardeschi's performance has earned him a spot on MLSsoccer.com's Matchday 6: Team of the Matchday bench.
