Toronto FC’s Federico Bernardeschi and Theo Corbeanu have been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 14, as starters, along with Ola Brynhildsen, as a substitute, following their electric performances in the Reds’ historic 6-1 victory over CF Montréal during their latest Rivalry Week clash at Stade Saputo.

The emphatic win marked the first time in club history that Toronto FC scored six goals in an MLS match and featured the Reds’ attacking trio contributing to all six TFC goals in the latest edition of the ‘401 Derby.’

Italian winger Federico Bernardeschi delivered an all-action, Man of the Match performance, playing a role in four of Toronto’s six goals. In the 30th minute, he doubled the Reds’ lead with a powerful, right-footed finish after running onto a pass from Deybi Flores. Just three minutes later, Bernardeschi and Maxime Dominguez combined to set up Ola Brynhildsen for a close-range finish past Montréal goalkeeper Sébastian Breza.

In the second half, Bernardeschi collected a pass from compatriot Lorenzo Insigne and unleashed an unstoppable strike from outside the box in the 55th minute, marking his third brace since joining Toronto FC. He then recorded his second assist and fourth goal contribution of the match with a precise through ball that was converted by Theo Corbeanu in stoppage time.

Entering the match in the 62nd minute, Canadian winger Theo Corbeanu, celebrating his 23rd birthday, made an immediate impact by scoring his first brace for Toronto FC. He netted his first goal with a driven left-footed strike following a ricochet in the box in the 66thminute.

The TFC Academy product scored his side’s sixth and final goal of the afternoon when he ran onto Bernardeschi’s through ball and executed a perfectly timed chip over Sébastian Breza, completing the 6-1 scoreline in stoppage time.

Norwegian forward Ola Brynhildsen also played a pivotal role for the Reds, recording his first assist and goal for Toronto FC during the first half of the match. In the 14th minute, he assisted Tyrese Spicer’s opening goal following a rapid run down the left wing and composed finish from the Trinidadian. Shortly after, Brynhildsen was fouled by Montréal defender Joel Waterman, resulting in a red card for the hosts following a last-man challenge. Just three minutes later, Brynhildsen capped off a clever run in the box with a guided, side-footed finish, following a passing sequence between Bernardeschi and Maxime Dominguez, to open his account for the Reds.

The Matchday 14 honour marks Bernardeschi’s eleventh MLS Team of the Matchday selection with Toronto FC and his second of the 2025 MLS season. The recognition also marks a pair of firsts for new signings Theo Corbeanu and Ola Brynhildsen, who joined the Reds ahead of the 2025 campaign. In total, Toronto FC have now earned seven MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2025 MLS regular season – Sean Johnson (2), Federico Bernardeschi (2), Ola Brynhildsen (1), Theo Corbeanu (1) and Lorenzo Insigne (1).
