Toronto FC announced today that the club has signed defender Raoul Petretta from Turkish club Kasımpaşa Spor Kulübü using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) through 2025 with an option for 2026. Petretta will be added to the roster pending the receipt of the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“Raoul is an experienced young left-back who established himself in a strong European club and has gained experience playing at a high level in European competitions with FC Basel,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Sporting Director Bob Bradley. “He is a smart passer, disciplined defender, and has the work rate to get up and down the left flank consistently.We are excited to have him join Toronto FC and strengthen our backline.”
Petretta, 25, recently appeared in 12 matches across all competitions (Süper Lig andTürkiye Kupasi) for Kasımpaşa since joining the Turkish side in July 2022. Prior to signing with Kasımpaşa, Petretta spent four seasons at FC Basel (Swiss Super League), where he made 152appearances across all competitions for the team, registering 10 goals and 12 assists in the process. In his four years with Basel, the left-back featured in five UEFA Champions League, 10 UEFA Europa League and three UEFA Europa Conference League matches and won three titles, including the Swiss Super League (2016/2017) and two Swiss Cups (2016/2017 and 2018/2019). Born in Rheinfelden, Germany, Petretta began his career with Basel in 2005, where he came through the youth ranks and made his professional debut against Lugano on April 2, 2017.
At the international level, Petretta has represented Italy at the youth level. He made his debut with Italy U-21 in a friendly match against Portugal on May 25, 2018.
