THROUGH THE YEARS

TFC take on 2010 MLS expansion club Philadelphia Union in the 37th all-time regular season meeting between the two sides. Historically, TFC hold a 14W-12L-10T record through their first 36 regular season meetings with Philadelphia. Earlier this season, the Eastern Conference sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw on April 22, with second-half goals from Josh Sargent and Kobe Franklin followed by a dramatic 96th minute equalizer from TFC goalkeeper Luka Gavran at BMO Field. On Saturday, the Reds will look to secure their first road victory over the Union since March 2, 2019, when a Michael Bradley brace and a late Nick DeLeon strike lifted the visitors to a 3-1 win at Subaru Park, then known as Talen Energy Stadium.

STEP BY STEP

Toronto FC head into their Matchday 35 season finale following a win and loss in their previous two MLS outings. The Reds first closed out their 2026 home schedule on October 28 with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over D.C. United at BMO Field. After Andre Dozzell put the visitors ahead, Jonathan Osorio restored parity in the second half before Josh Sargent completed the turnaround with an 86th minute winner. With his equalizer, club captain Osorio became the first player in TFC history to appear and score in each of his 14 seasons with the club (2013-2026), while also becoming the first player in MLS history to achieve the feat with a single club. The result also extended Toronto's unbeaten run at BMO Field to eight matches since the FIFA World Cup 2026â„¢ break, with the Reds recording four wins and four draws dating back to August 15.

Four days later, the Reds fell to a 3-1 defeat against Atlanta United FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in their penultimate fixture of the regular season. First-half strikes from Miguel Almirón and Cooper Sanchez gave the hosts a two-goal advantage before Alexey Miranchuk added a third shortly after the interval. Substitute Lewis Morgan pulled one back for Toronto, converting Josh Sargent's 79th minute set-up, but the Reds were unable to mount another comeback as Atlanta secured all three points, with the defeat officially eliminating Toronto FC from MLS Cup Playoffs contention. Sunday's match also marked a pair of milestone appearances for the Reds' hometown duo, with midfielder Jonathan Osorio making his 350th MLS regular season appearance for Toronto FC and defender Richie Laryea recording his 150th MLS regular season appearance for the club.

THE ROAD AHEAD

On Thursday, October 29, Major League Soccer and Toronto FC announced the complete 14-game schedule for the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, as MLS transitions into its new summer-to-spring competition calendar beginning in July 2027. TFC will face 14 Eastern Conference clubs during the regular season, with their schedule split evenly between seven home and seven road matches from February 20 to May 8. The Reds will begin the campaign on the road for the ninth consecutive season in club history, opening against Atlanta United on February 20, before their Home Opener against Canadian rivals CF Montréal at BMO Field a week later. Toronto will host Philadelphia Union on March 20 during the final weekend of March Break, before closing out their regular season with a home matchup against Inter Miami CF on May 8. Following Decision Day, the top eight teams in each of the two conferences will qualify for the 2027 MLS Cup Playoffs. In each conference, the postseason will be played in a single-elimination bracket format to determine a conference champion. The Eastern and Western Conference champions will meet in the 2027 MLS Cup in late May.

The first match will take place in Cali, Colombia, on November 13, before the two sides meet again in Santiago, Chile, four days later.

Ryan-Richter-TFC

ONCE A RED

A familiar face will be on the opposing touchline on Sunday afternoon, as former Toronto FC defender Ryan Richter leads Philadelphia Union into the Decision Day matchup. During his playing career, Richter joined the Reds from USL Pro side Charleston Battery in March 2013. The Southampton, Pennsylvania native made 15 combined appearances for Toronto during the 2013 season, including his club debut against his hometown club, Philadelphia Union, on April 13, 2013. He recorded his first and only assist for TFC on April 27, 2013, setting up current club captain Jonathan Osorio for a thunderous long-range equalizer against Red Bull New York. Following his transition into coaching, Richter was named Philadelphia Union's interim head coach on May 27, 2026, and has guided the Union to a 12W-2L-4T MLS record since the FIFA World Cup 2026â„¢ break.
