STEP BY STEP
Toronto FC marked their return from the FIFA Club World Cup and Concacaf Gold Cup break with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls at BMO Field on Wednesday evening. The visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute, as Mohammed Sofo tapped in from close-range after Sean Johnson had initially denied Lewis Morgan’s effort. The Reds equalized six minutes into the second half when Theo Corbeanu nodded home a well-placed header, following a cross from Alonso Coello and Sigurd Rosted’s redirected header. The 51st minute strike marked Corbeanu’s fifth MLS goal contribution of the season (four goals, one assist), while Rosted registered his first assist for TFC. With both sides unable to find a late winner, the Eastern Conference clubs settled for a point apiece in the Matchday 20 clash, which also saw Canadian forward Deandre Kerr make his long-awaited return from injury in the 76th minute, marking his first club appearance since March 29. Toronto FC II midfielder Malik Henry also made his club debut as an 87th minute substitute, becoming the seventh player to debut for the Reds during the 2025 MLS season.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY
Toronto FC goalkepeer Sean Johnson was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 20, as a substitute, after a standout performance in the club’s 1-1 draw against New York Red Bulls at BMO Field. Making a team-leading 18th start of the 2025 campaign, Sean Johnson played a key role in helping the Reds earn a point in their return from the FIFA Club World Cup and Concacaf Gold Cup break. The Lilburn, Georgia native completed 23 passes and made four saves during the Matchday 20 contest. The veteran MLS goalkeeper is enjoying an impressive 15th Major League Soccer season, having recorded four clean sheets and ranking second across the league in saves (70) during the 2025 campaign. The honour marks Johnson’s third MLS Team of the Matchday selection of 2025 and his seventh overall since joining TFC in January 2023. In total, the Reds have now earned eight MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2025 MLS regular season – Sean Johnson (3), Federico Bernardeschi (2), Ola Brynhildsen (1), Theo Corbeanu (1) and Lorenzo Insigne (1).
