Toronto FC continue their 2026 Major League Soccer campaign with a road matchup against Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Saturday night. The Matchday 2 contest in Vancouver, British Columbia kicks off at 9:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. PST) and will be available to watch globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV.

The Reds opened their 20th MLS season with a narrow 3-2 road defeat against FC Dallas in Frisco, Texas last weekend and will look to register their first win of the campaign on Saturday. Historically, the Reds hold a 6W-8L-4T regular season record against Vancouver and will be looking to secure their first road victory over the Whitecaps since March 2017.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES 

Toronto FC begin their 2026 Major League Soccer campaign with back-to-back road matches for the fourth consecutive season. Following a narrow 3-2 away loss against FC Dallas in their MLS Season Opener last weekend, the Reds hold a 57W-173L-79T all-time record (250 points) in MLS regular season road matches to date.

THROUGH THE YEARS

The Reds travel west to face Canadian rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 19th all-time MLS regular season meeting between the two clubs. Historically, Toronto FC hold a 6W-8L-4T record through 18 regular season matchups dating back to March 2011. Toronto has won two of seven MLS visits to BC Place and will be looking to secure their first road victory over the Whitecaps since March 18, 2017, when second-half goals from Víctor Vázquez and Jozy Altidore sealed a 2-0 win in Vancouver.

TFC opened their milestone 20th MLS season with a narrow, hard-fought 3-2 road defeat to FC Dallas on Saturday night. The hosts struck early and took the lead through Petar Musa in the ninth minute before Derrick Etienne Jr. and Jonathan Osorio combined to set up Djordje Mihailovic for the equalizer. The 15th minute strike marked Mihailovic’s fifth goal for the club and Osorio’s club-leading 58th assist for Toronto. Logan Farrington restored Dallas’ advantage in the 37th minute with a left-footed finish. Nine minutes after the break, new signing Raheem Edwards made his 28th appearance for TFC, 3,014 days after his 27thouting in the MLS Eastern Conference Final against Columbus Crew on November 21, 2017. Etienne Jr. brought Toronto level again in the 67th minute, executing a dinked finish after goalkeeper Michael Collodi parried Dániel Sallói’s effort into his path. Dallas responded as Farrington netted his second goal in the 74th minute to seal a 3-2 result for Los Toros at at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

A NIGHT OF FIRSTS

It was a night of special firsts for Toronto FC in their Matchday 1 meeting with FC Dallas, as several Reds marked key milestones to open the 2026 campaign. Facing his former club FC Dallas, Walker Zimmerman made his TFC debut and first start, while Malik Henry earned his first start for the Reds. Djordje Mihailovic and Derrick Etienne Jr. opened their accounts for the new MLS season, with Etienne Jr. also recording his first multi-goal contribution (one goal, one assist) for TFC in MLS play. Off the bench, Dániel Sallói made his club debut and Emilio Aristizábal made both his TFC and MLS debut, becoming the first Colombian-born player to represent the Reds.

HUNGARY-BORN, HUNGRY TO WIN

Last Thursday, Toronto FC strengthened their roster with the acquisition of Dániel Sallói from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for a guaranteed $300,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) and an additional $700,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met. The Hungarian international previously spent 10 seasons (2016 – 2025) with Sporting Kansas City, where he recorded 67 goals and 47 assists in 287 combined appearances. In 2021, the winger was named an MLS All-Star and was a finalist for both the Landon Donovan MVP and the MLS Comeback Player of the Year awards, after recording 16 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. Internationally, Sallói has earned four caps for the Hungarian National Team including his debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against England on September 2, 2021.

MILESTONE WATCH

Derrick Etienne Jr. has made 49 MLS appearances for Toronto FC and his next outing will mark his 50th MLS appearance for the Reds. The Haitian international made his TFC debut against Orlando City SC on April 27, 2024, and recorded two goal contributions (one goal, one assist) in last weekend’s season-opener against FC Dallas.

ONCE A RED

Saturday’s all-Canadian showdown in British Columbia is set to feature a trio of familiar faces with ties to their opponents. TFC defender Richie Laryea spent time on loan with Vancouver during the 2023 MLS season, recording one goal and three assists in 14 combined appearances for the Whitecaps. TFC Assistant Coach Steven Beitashour also has history on both sides of the rivalry, making 56 MLS appearances across two seasons in Vancouver (2014, 2015) before joining Toronto FC for two seasons (2016, 2017), where he helped the Reds capture a historic domestic treble in 2017. 

Meanwhile, Vancouver defender Ralph Priso originally joined the Toronto FC Academy in January 2017 and became the 25thplayer in club history to sign for Toronto FC from the TFC Academy in October 2020. The Homegrown product scored two goals in 33 combined appearances across three seasons (2020 – 2022) for the Reds. Priso joined the Colorado Rapids via trade in July 2022 before signing with the Whitecaps in March 2024.
