Toronto FC were edged 1-0 by Norwegian club Fredrikstad FK in their fourth preseason match early Wednesday morning.
In a scoreless first half, the Reds’ best opportunity came in the 36th minute when Kobe Franklin intercepted a pass and quickly found Derrick Etienne Jr. in behind Fredrikstad’s back line, the winger’s shot struck the back post before the goalkeeper gathered the rebound.
After the break, Fredrikstad broke the stalemate in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead. TFC nearly found a response when a corner kick picked out Walker Zimmerman at the back post, but his effort was kept out by the goalkeeper as Fredrikstad held on for a 1-0 victory.
The Reds will play their final presason match against Ukrainian club, FC Polissya Zhytomyr in a closed-door scrimmage on Saturday, February 14 before returning to Toronto.
