Toronto FC (3W-2L-4T, 13 points) played to a thrilling 3-3 draw against conference rivals Philadelphia Union (1W-6L-2T, 5 points) on Wednesday evening to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches, courtesy of second-half goals from Josh Sargent, Kobe Franklin and Luka Gavran at BMO Field.
TFC Head Coach Robin Fraser made a pair of changes from Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Austin FC with Raheem Edwards and Derrick Etienne Jr. making way for Walker Zimmerman and Deandre Kerr.
TFC goalkeeper Luka Gavran was called into action early, as the Hamilton, Ontario native denied Frankie Westfield’s seventh minute free-kick attempt.
The hosts controlled the majority of possession created several goalscoring chances but lacked a clinical edge, with Walker Zimmerman, José Cifuentes, Josh Sargent and Deandre Kerr coming closest to breaking the deadlock.
Philadelphia Union struck against the run of play moments before half-time, as Milan Iloski latched onto Jovan Lukic’s through ball and buried a low, right-footed finish to make it 1-0.
The Union doubled their advantage seven minutes into the second half when Zane Monlouis’ attempted clearance ricocheted off Danley Jean Jacques and into the net.
The Reds responded almost immediately, as a slick passing move between José Cifuentes, Dániel Sallói and Josh Sargent ended with Sargent beating his defender and firing a powerful left-footed strike past Philadelphia’s Andre Blake to cut the deficit to one.
The 56th minute strike marked the American striker’s second goal for the Reds and the Hungarian winger’s team-leading fifth goal contribution (three goals, two assists) of the 2026 season.
The hosts drew level eight minutes later when Kobe Franklin met José Cifuentes’ pass in the box and arrowed a thumping effort in off the far post.
The 64th minute equalizer marked the Canadian defender’s second goal in as many matches, following his late equalizer against Austin FC on Saturday, and the Ecuadorian midfielder’s third assist of the campaign.
With both sides pushing for a late winner, the Union struck in the 89th minute as Nathan Harriel rose to head home Alejandro Bedoya’s corner.
The Reds’ collective fighting spirit, however, refused to fade as goalkeeper Luka Gavran ventured forward for a late set piece. After narrowly missing his first attempt, the shot-stopper made his presence count moments later, nodding home from Alonso Coello’s dangerous delivery into the box.
The 96th minute goal marked Luka Gavran’s first goal for Toronto FC, making him the first goalkeeper in club history to score and the first goalkeeper to score in MLS play since October 2010.
The late equalizer ultimately helped the Reds secure a hard-fought point in a 3-3 draw, extending the club’s unbeaten run to seven matches since March 8.
Toronto FC continue their MLS campaign on Saturday, April 25, hosting Atlanta United in the seventh match of their nine-game homestand. Kick-off from BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario is set for 1:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on Apple TV.
