Toronto FC (5W-13L-13T, 28 points) earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners Inter Miami CF (16W-6L-8T, 56 points) at BMO Field on Saturday evening, extending their unbeaten streak to seven matches courtesy of Djordje Mihailovic’s second-half equalizer.

Toronto FC’s only change from last week’s road draw against Columbus Crew came between the sticks, with Sean Johnson getting the nod over Luka Gavran.

Both goalkeepers, Sean Johnson and Óscar Ustari, delivered standout performances with key saves in an entertaining first half along the lake shore on a sunny fall afternoon.

Toronto’s Johnson showed his sharpness early, stretching to his left in the 12th minute to thwart Baltasar Rodríguez’s strike from the top of the box.

Seventeen minutes later, the American shot-stopper was on hand with another instinctive, outstretched save to thwart an effort from the reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Lionel Messi.

The American shot-stopper was called upon again in the 29th minute, reacting instinctively to keep out a right-footed effort from reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Lionel Messi.

Down the other end, Miami’s Ustari was called into action six minutes later, diving low to his right to turn away Alonso Coello’s effort in front of the South End.

Inter Miami CF broke the deadlock moments before half-time when Lionel Messi released Jordi Alba into space and the Spanish full-back’s pinpoint delivery was headed home by Tadeo Allende in first-half stoppage time.

The Reds began the second half on the front foot and carved their equalizer 15 minutes into the restart. On the play, Jonathan Osorio slipped Richie Laryea down the right and the full-back’s outstretched pass kept the play alive by setting up Djordje Mihailovic for a simple close-range finish.

The 60th minute strike marked Mihailovic’s first goal for TFC since joining the club last month and Laryea’s first assist of the 2025 MLS season for his hometown club.

Both Eastern Conference sides pushed hard for a late winner in the second half, but neither were able to find the decisive breakthrough. Toronto’s Sean Johnson came up big once more for his fifth save in the 83rd minute, diving to his right to turn away Lione Messi’s powerful free-kick and preserve the 1-1 scoreline

The hard-fought result secured another point for Toronto FC, stretching the Reds’ unbeaten run to seven matches, all ties, dating back to August 9.

Next up, Toronto FC head to the Windy City for a clash with the Chicago Fire on Saturday, October 4. Kick-off from Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois is set for 8:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
