Toronto FC (4W-11L-6T, 18 points) and Atlanta United (4W-10L-7T, 19 points) played to a 1-1 draw at BMO Field on Saturday evening, courtesy of Emmanuel Latte Lath’s late penalty cancelling out Deybi Flores’ opener.

TFC Head Coach Robin Fraser made three changes to the line-up that started against New York City FC on July 3, bringing in Richie Laryea, Deybi Flores and Derrick Etienne Jr. for Kevin Long, Alonso Coello and Tyrese Spicer. The side featured Canadian international Richie Laryea making his first club start since March 1, 2025, while Honduran midfielder Deybi Flores returned to MLS action after playing in every match of Honduras’ run to the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup semi-finals.

Prior to kick-off by the lake shore, former Toronto FC winger Tsubasa Endoh was honoured on the field and presented the official match ball after recently signing a one-day contract to officially retire as a Red.

Atlanta United appeared to strike early when Emmanuel Latte Lath fired home from close-range but the 20th minute effort was ruled out for offside.

TFC were forced into a first-half substitution in the 35th minute, as Ola Brynhildsen picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Deandre Kerr.

The Reds took the lead three minutes into the second half when Matty Longstaff’s in-swinging corner was met by a powerful header from Deybi Flores.

The 48th minute effort marked the Honduran defensive midfielder’s second goal of the season and Longstaff’s first assist and goal involvement of the campaign.

Unable to find a second goal, the Reds were undone late when Atlanta United were awarded a penalty kick for substitute Charlie Sharp’s foul on Atlanta’s Luke Brennan in the box. Emmanuel Latte Lath stepped up and converted from the spot for the Five Stripes in stoppage, as the two Eastern Conference sides settled for a 1-1 draw in the Matchday 24 contest.

Up next, Toronto FC head to SoCal for a clash with 2025 MLS expansion club San Diego FC on Wednesday, July 16. Kick-off from Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California is set for 10:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and on TSN in Canada.
