Toronto FC (3W-6L-6T, 15 points) returned from the FIFA World Cup 26™ break with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against rivals CF Montréal (4W-8L-3T, 15 points) in the latest edition of the 401 Derby at Stade Saputo on Thursday evening.
Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser made three changes to the side that started the club’s final match before the FIFA World Cup 26™, with Zane Monlouis, Richie Laryea and Theo Corbeanu replacing Nicksoen Gomis, Jonathan Osorio and Malik Henry in the starting eleven. Fresh off playing a key role in Canada’s historic FIFA World Cup 26™ campaign, Laryea captained the Reds as Jonathan Osorio served a suspension for yellow card accumulation. Canadian Theo Corbeanu returned from injury to make his first start since TFC’s 2026 MLS season finale against Orlando City last October.
The latest edition of the 401 Derby began as a cagey affair, with TFC goalkeeper Luka Gavran producing a sharp low save inside the opening minute to deny Hennadii Synchuk as the two Canadian rivals went into half-time level.
Seeking an attacking spark to break the deadlock, Robin Fraser turned to options off the bench, introducing CF Montréal duo Jules-Anthony Vilsaint and Djordje Mihailovic in the 62nd and 74th minutes respectively.
At the other end, shot-stopper Luka Gavran continued an impressive performance between the sticks, producing a crucial save to deny Montréal’s Daniel Ríos in the 77th minute to keep the score level at 0-0.
Both Eastern Conference clubs pushed for a late winner but were ultimately unable to break the deadlock as TFC and goalkeeper Luka Gavran held firm to record their second clean sheet of the 2026 MLS season, earning a point in a goalless draw from Montreal, Quebec.
The Reds continue their MLS season with a road trip to take on New England Revolution on Wednesday, July 22. Kick-off from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on Apple TV and on TSN4 in Canada.
