Toronto FC (5W-7L-11T, 26 points) conclude their three-game homestand against league leaders Nashville SC (16W-2L-5T, 53 points) on Wednesday evening. The Matchday 25 encounter in Toronto, Ontario kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be available globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV and on TSN5 in Canada.
TFC and Nashville SC enter Wednesday’s midweek clash riding six-match unbeaten runs dating back to Matchday 19, with the conference rivals scoring 13 and 14 goals, respectively, across those six matches. Historically, Toronto hold a 2W-5L-3T record against Nashville through 10 regular season meetings and will look to secure their first home victory over the Boys in Gold since September 2021.

Toronto FC conclude their three-game homestand with midweek MLS action against Nashville SC on Wednesday evening at BMO Field. Unbeaten in their last four home matches since the FIFA World Cup 26™ break, TFC hold an all-time regular season record of 128W-101L-92T (476 points) on home soil to date.
THROUGH THE YEARS
TFC host 2020 MLS expansion club Nashville SC for the 11th MLS regular season meeting in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 2W-5L-3T record through their first 10 meetings with the Boys in Gold. The two sides will meet again at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 26. On Wednesday, the Reds will be looking to secure their first home victory over Nashville since a 2-1 win on September 18, 2021, when goals from Jacob Shaffelburg and Omar González powered the hosts to three points.
ONE STEP FORWARD
The Reds enter Matchday 25 having earned a result in eight of their last nine MLS matches (2W-6T-1L) since July 16, including a six-match unbeaten run featuring two wins and four draws since July 31. On August 29, TFC played out a 1-1 draw against New York City FC at BMO Field. Nicolás Fernández’s first-half opener was cancelled out by Dániel Sallói, who converted Theo Corbeanu’s 70th minute cross to earn his side a valuable point.
A week later, Eastern Conference rivals Toronto FC and Chicago Fire FC played out an entertaining 4-4 draw at BMO Field, with both sides extending their unbeaten runs to six MLS matches. Chicago took an early lead through Maren Haile-Selassie before Josh Sargent’s first MLS hat-trick put the Reds ahead on two separate occasions. The Fire, however, responded through an own goal from Walker Zimmerman and Maren Haile-Selassie to draw level before taking a late lead of their own via Robert Lewandowski. Trailing by one in the closing stages, Toronto struck back in dramatic fashion as Derrick Etienne Jr. came off the bench to score a spectacular stoppage-time equalizer and earn the Reds a point in the eight-goal thriller. Etienne Jr.’s 92nd minute stunner subsequently earned the Haitian international Energy Moment of the Matchday presented by Celsius honours for Matchday 24, while Sallói extended his run of recording a goal involvement to five consecutive MLS matches.
TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY
On Monday, Toronto FC forward Josh Sargent was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 24 following his sensational hat-trick in the Reds’ action-packed 4-4 draw against Chicago Fire FC at BMO Field. After Toronto fell behind to an early Chicago goal, Sargent drew his side level with his fifth MLS goal of the season when he controlled Djordje Mihailovic’s clipped pass into the box with his chest before drilling a left-footed effort home. Sargent put the hosts ahead 11 minutes later, reacting instinctively to volley home after Mihailovic’s attempted shot following a quick corner routine deflected into his path. With the scores level at 2-2 shortly after the restart, he completed his first professional hat-trick, picking up Mihailovic’s lay-off before unleashing a powerful, precise low-driven effort into the bottom corner from outside the box. The 54th minute strike marked Sargent’s first hat-trick for Toronto FC, with the American forward becoming the fifth player in club history to score three goals in a single MLS match, joining Sebastian Giovinco, Justin Morrow, Ayo Akinola and Federico Bernardeschi.
In addition to his goalscoring exploits, Sargent earned Player of the Match honours and led the Reds in shots (7), shots on target (5) and high-speed runs (36). The O’Fallon, Missouri native also ranked among Toronto’s top three players in sprints (18), distance covered (10.6 km) and top speed (31.38 km/h), playing an instrumental role as the Reds extended their unbeaten run to six matches following the eight-goal thriller. The honour marks Sargent’s team-leading third MLS Team of the Matchday selection since joining the Reds in February. In total, Toronto FC have now earned 10 MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 MLS regular season – Josh Sargent (3), Niklas Dorsch (2), Emilio Aristizábal (1), José Cifuentes (1), Luka Gavran (1), Richie Laryea (1) and Walker Zimmerman (1).
100 & ONE
Alonso Coello made his 100th Major League Soccer appearance for Toronto FC against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, becoming the third active TFC player to reach the milestone joining Canadian internationals Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea. The Spanish midfielder also recorded two assists in a single match for the first time in his TFC career, including his 10th assist for the Reds on Sargent’s opening goal.
New signing Lewis Morgan also made his Toronto FC debut, entering the match as a 64th minute substitute for Theo Corbeanu. The Scottish international became the 15th player to make his Reds debut during the 2026 season.
INS & OUTS
The Reds completed three player transactions last week ahead of the closing of Major League Soccer’s Secondary Transfer Window on Wednesday, September 2. TFC acquired Lewis Morgan from San Diego FC in exchange for a 2026 International Roster Slot. The Scottish attacker joins the Reds in his seventh MLS season, after recording 35 goals and 27 assists in 146 appearances across previous spells with Inter Miami CF (2020-21), Red Bull New York (2022-25) and San Diego FC (2026). Morgan was named the 2024 MLS Comeback Player of the Year following a standout campaign with RBNY, where he registered 13 goals and seven assists in 29 appearances and helped the club secure a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Greenock, Scotland native progressed through the youth ranks at Rangers FC before spending four seasons with St. Mirren and two with Celtic FC. Internationally, Morgan represented Scotland at the U-21 level and has earned seven caps for the Scottish Men’s National Team.
TFC also acquired winger Alejandro Piedrahita from Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia on loan through the 2027 MLS Spring season, with an option to purchase. The 24-year-old spent the past two seasons with CSKA Sofia, recording two goals in 21 combined appearances for the Bulgarian top-flight side. The Cartago, Colombia native previously spent five seasons with Colombian First Division club Deportivo Pereira, where he registered 10 goals and three assists in 110 combined appearances. Piedrahita also spent time on loan with Club Atlético Banfield and Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, making a combined 25 appearances in Argentina’s First Division. Internationally, Piedrahita was called up to the Colombian U-20 National Team for a training camp ahead of the 2021 South American Championship.
Earlier in the window, Toronto FC bolstered their midfield with the additions of German midfielder Niklas Dorsch from 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 and Colombian midfielder Nelson Palacio in a cash-for-player trade from Real Salt Lake. The Reds also strengthened their backline with the additions of defenders Richard Chukwu and Jackson Gilman from Toronto FC II.
On the way out, Canadian forward Deandre Kerr was transferred to Liga Portugal 2 side AVS Futebol SAD on a permanent transfer. The Ajax, Ontario native recorded 21 goals and three assists in 114 combined appearances for Toronto FC after joining the First Team as a Homegrown Player on January 21, 2022. He originally joined the Toronto FC Academy on November 17, 2018, and made club history on May 21, 2024, becoming the first player to score four goals in a single match for the Reds during a 8-1 Canadian Championship victory over CS Saint-Laurent.
A trio of players also departed earlier in the summer. On June 29, Midfielder José Cifuentes returned to Rangers FC following the completion of his loan with TFC. On July 3, the Club waived defender Henry Wingo and exercised a Buyout of his Guaranteed Contract, while forward Cassius Mailula and the Club agreed to a mutual contract termination.
A NIGHT OF HONOUR
Wednesday’s match at BMO Field marks Toronto FC’s annual Canadian Armed Forces Night, with more than 250 military members and their families in attendance from the Greater Toronto Area, CFB Borden, CFB Trenton and CFB Kingston, representing the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force. Over 250 TFC season ticket members generously donated their tickets for members of the Canadian Armed Forces to attend the midweek MLS match. Members of the Canadian Armed Forces will also participate in several elements of the matchday experience including the national anthem performance, match ball delivery and Canadian flag presentation.
ONCE A RED
A pair of American defenders – one on each roster – have previous connections to their opponents ahead of Wednesday’s meeting. Walker Zimmerman, who joined TFC in January, previously spent six seasons with Nashville SC (2020-25), recording 16 goals and seven assists in 172 combined appearances. The Lawrenceville, Georgia native scored Nashville’s first-ever goal in MLS history during the club’s inaugural league match, a 2-1 victory over Atlanta United on February 29, 2020. Zimmerman captained the Boys in Gold to their first-ever trophy, lifting the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. During his time in Nashville, the U.S. international was named MLS Defender of the Year twice (2020, 2021), an MLS All-Star three times (2021, 2022, 2023) and an MLS Best XI honouree four times (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023).
Down the other side, Daniel Lovitz was selected 24th overall (second round) by TFC in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft out of Elon University. The Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania native registered four assists in 47 combined appearances during his three seasons with the Reds (2014-16). Now in his seventh season with the Boys in Gold, Lovitz has registered two assists in 23 appearances, including 17 starts, during the 2026 MLS campaign.
