Toronto FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson has been named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday 10 as a starter following his performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win against New England Revolution at BMO Field.

The Lilburn, Georgia native completed the match with five saves to record a joint league-leading third clean sheet, and the Reds’ league-leading fifth shutout, of the 2024 MLS regular season. With both teams looking for an opener on the night, Johnson made a spectacular save in the 51st minute to deny New England Revolution forward Giacomo Vrioni in a 1-v-1 situation, where the 6’3” goalkeeper read the play perfectly and made a diving save to his right to redirect the ball for a corner.

Saturday’s performance also marked Johnson’s 99th career MLS regular season clean sheet and his nine shutouts for the Reds to date is currently ranked sixth in the club’s all-time clean sheet charts.

The MLS Team of the Matchday selection is Johnson’s 20th of his MLS career, split between Chicago Fire (1), New York City FC (15) and Toronto FC (4), and his third of the 2024 MLS season after earning Matchday 1/2 and 3 honours following clean sheet performances against FC Cincinnati and New England Revolution earlier in the campaign.
