Match Recap: Toronto FC II vs. FC Tucson

Silva vs. Tucson

Toronto FC II earned victory against FC Tucson in its home opener on Friday evening as it broke a three-game losing streak. Toronto took the lead in the 37th minute on the first big chance of the game as Jordan Perruzza slid Jacob Shaffelburg in behind the Tucson defense on then left and then made a run to the back post where Shaffelburg picked him out with a clipped cross Perruzza headed home.

The Reds almost added to their lead early in the second half as Perruzza was denied by Tucson goalkeeper Philip Ejimadu after breaking in behind the back line, and moments later Griffin Dorsey fired wide of the left post. Tucson almost leveled the game with 16 minutes to go when Jamael Cox hit the right post on a first-time finish, while Toronto’s Jordan Faria curled a finish just wide of the right post for the hosts moments later, but despite some missed late opportunities for TFC II to ice the game Perruzza’s goal proved enough to see it home.
