Last week the BMO Training Ground played host to a number of top Canada Soccer coaches and technical staff for a week of integrated sessions with a pair of TFC Academy teams. Canadian Men’s’ National Team Head Coach John Herdman was in attendance to help kick off this new Canada Soccer Men’s Excel Program initiative.

“It was a fantastic week at the BMO Training Ground working in collaboration with Canada Soccer.  I applaud the efforts of John Herdman and his staff to share the National team identity and expectations with our players and coaches to provide a clear vision of what’s to come, “said TFC Academy Director Anthony Capotosto.

The group of coaches from Canada Soccer worked with both the TFC U-15 and U-17 teams, and we’re fully integrated into the Academy’s training sessions for the week. The Canada Soccer staff led five sessions per age group as well as a pair of matches against Vaughan SC.

“This level of integration with Canada Soccer is unprecedented, and we are both excited and honoured to be part of the process and contribute to development of the game in Canada,” added Capotosto, ”we look forward to continuing this initiative and working more closely with Canada Soccer through the year.”

In addition to the on-field activities, the Canada Soccer staff held workshops with the TFC Academy staff.
