Three Keys to the Match: Vancouver Whitecaps at Toronto FC

VAN Three Keys 2018

The Reds look to keep it rolling against the ‘Caps. Here are the Benjamin Moore three keys to Saturday’s match Vancouver.
Dangerous Davies

Catch him while (or if) you can.

Simply put, Alphonso Davies is one of the most electrifying young players in Major League Soccer. Recently ranked #1 in MLSsoccer.com’s 22 under 22 list, Davies has continued to impress in his just his second full season in MLS.

The 17-year-old phenom has already secured a move to Bayern Munich meaning his days with ‘Caps are numbered, so fans should definitely keep an eye on the Canadian international in his final trip to BMO Field in a Whitecaps uniform. His pace and technical ability on the ball make him a handful to deal with, so the Reds will need to make sure he doesn’t get out on the run.

Transition Opportunities

With the speedy Davies leading the charge, the Whitecaps will surely be looking to hit out on the break come Saturday night.

Vancouver are not a team that’s likely to break you down through possession, but they do possess dangerous weapons that like to take advantage on the counter. At BMO Field, where the Reds often hold the lion’s share of the ball, they’ll need to be careful not to leave gaps in behind.

Leave it to Lucas

Jozy Altidore’s status remains in question, which means Lucas Janson could well have another chance to strut his stuff on Saturday night.

The Argentine came on for the injured Altidore in last Saturday’s win over New England, scoring his first goal at BMO Field in the process. His movement off the ball and ability to combine with Sebastian Giovinco made for an encouraging outing, and Saturday is another opportunity to build off that performance.
