Three Keys to the Match: New England Revolution at Toronto FC

CLB (home) Three Keys 2018

An Eastern Conference showdown at BMO Field. Here are the Benjamin Moore Three to the Match vs. New England.
No Easy Giveaways

Much like the New York Red Bulls side they faced a week ago, Toronto FC will have to cope with another high-pressing team when the New England Revolution come to town.

Head coach Brad Friedel has transformed the Revs in his first year in charge and will bring a different look to BMO Field than his predecessor, Jay Heaps. The backline will need to be cautious when building out of the back and avoid turnovers in dangerous areas where the Revs can win possession and head straight for goal.

Carry the Load

The Reds sorely missed Sebastian Giovinco last weekend, and issues only got worse when Jozy Altidore was forced to withdraw at halftime.

With the duo fighting their way back to full fitness, the midfield will have to pick up the slack in terms of offensive production. Jonathan Osorio has proven time and again to be a dangerous weapon in the final third, and Lucas Janson will be looking to make his mark after a mid-summer move to Toronto.

Win with Width

A big part of what made Toronto FC so successful in 2017 was their ability to beat team in a multitude of ways.

We all know the quality that Victor Vazquez possess when pulling the strings in the midfield, but if the Revs stay compact on the day, the Reds will need to use their wing play to break them down. Look for Justin Morrow and Auro Jr. to join the attack and create 1v1 situations down the flanks to pull the defence out of position.
