Toronto FC II fell at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday night on a dampened 4th of July in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The hosts jumped ahead as Georgi Hristov scored his 58th goal with the Rowdies, becoming the franchise’s all-time leading goal soccer. The Bulgarian chipped Borja Angoitia off a goal kick to give the Rowdies the early lead.
Angoitia stood tall for the remainder of the first half making a few big stops to keep the Reds in the match. It went into the break at 1-0.
The Rowdies doubled their lead early in the second half as Leon Taylor finished off a good attacking move by Leo Fernandes.
TFC II pulled one back as Luca Uccello swung in a cross off a set piece that handcuffed the Rowdies ‘keeper Akira Fitzgerald. The goal was recorded as an Own Goal.

Shortly after the TFC II marker, the skies opened up and the game entered a weather delay as a nasty storm rolled through St. Pete.
Following a 59-minute delay, the game resumed. The Rowdies added another shortly after the restart as Joe Cole fired in a low strike past Angoitia.
Toronto FC II return to action in two weeks as they travel to Louisville to take on the reigning USL Cup champions on July 18th at 7:00 PM.
