Three Keys to the Match: Toronto FC vs. Philadelphia Union

PHI Three Keys 2018

Friday footy returns to BMO Field as the Reds look for their second home win of the season. Here are the Benjamin Moore three keys to the match vs. the Philadelphia Union.
On The Mend

A grueling start to the season has made it difficult for head coach Greg Vanney to select his starting XI week in and week out with various bodies shuffling in and out of the lineup. However, the Reds are working their way back to full fitness with Eriq Zavaleta, Chris Mavinga and Jozy Altidore fighting to make their way back for Friday’s match.

The return of Victor Vazquez was a massive lift against Chicago last weekend, and TFC will be hoping to get even more pieces of the puzzle back into the fold on Friday night.

Catch Him If You Can

Philadelphia made headlines during the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by trading for former Chicago winger David Accam, instantly providing a different dimension to the Union attack.

The speedy Ghanaian is one of the quickest players in MLS and is a nightmare to deal with on the wing. The Reds will have to be careful to not let the Union get out and running on the break lest they deal with Accam’s blazing speed in transition. The 27-yeard-old scored in his last trip to BMO Field and will be looking for more of the same on Friday night.

Unleash The Ant

Coming off of his Golden Ball performance throughout the Concacaf Champions League run, Sebastian Giovinco will be looking to carry over his good form into league play.

The Italian had a goal called back in last week’s 2-2 draw with Chicago but was lively as ever. TFC will need to get him on the ball early and often to unsettle the Philadelphia backline and keep them on their heels. If they can find Giovinco as he drifts into pockets near the edge of the area, he’ll have every opportunity to keep his hot streak going.
