Sixth Annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day Set for September 9

Toronto FC will host its sixth annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day on Saturday, September 9 against the San Jose Earthquakes, kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m. at BMO Field. Following the TFC match, Toronto FC II will host the New York Red Bulls II, with kick-off at 8:00 p.m.


“On behalf of everyone at Toronto FC, we are honoured to host the sixth annual Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day. This is always a special day as we welcome and recognize members of the Forces and their families,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. “Everyone at Toronto FC extends their appreciation for everything they have given and continue to give for their country.”


More than 300 members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families will be in attendance through donations from Toronto FC members and staff. Toronto FC players will wear “Support Our Troops” t-shirts as they walk onto the pitch and during the national anthems. In addition, the yellow “Support Our Troops” ribbon will be placed on all Toronto FC player jerseys for the match.


Throughout the day members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be honoured and recognized in a variety of ways. Members of the Canadian Armed Forces will create a guard of honour tunnel during player walk-on during pre-match festivities. The national anthems will be performed by Sergeant David Grenon from the Royal Canadian Air Force Band while a large Canadian flag will be unveiled on field by members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
