Vaughan - The Toronto FC Academy U-17 team are the champions of the 2017 inaugural International Youth Soccer Cup!
On Friday, the U-17s defeated Vaughan SC 4-1 to advance to the finals of the tournament. Kunle Dada-luke and Terique Mohammed both had a goal while Zakaria Abdi recorded a brace to power the Reds to victory.
The Reds defeated Italian side Juventus 1-1 (8-7) to capture the trophy in dramatic fashion on Sunday night at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
TFC jumped out to the early lead when Rocco Romeo converted from the penalty spot in the 10th minute.
The Reds held off the Juventus attack with ‘keeper Gianluca Catalano making some key stops in the second half to keep Juve off the board.
However, the Italians equalized in the 67th minute off a free kick and despite both teams best efforts, the game ended 1-1 with a penalty shootout needed to decide the inaugural champions.
Both teams were sharp from the spot as eight Reds converted their PKs before Catalano got a hand to a Juve effort to claim the inaugural cup for TFC!
