Bono Wins Week 17 MLS Save of the Week

Bono NE Walk

Chasing a late equalizer, New England's Teal Bunbury thought he found the equalizer with a flick header to the near post.

Alex Bono wasn't having it.

His outrageous reaction save kept the score at 1-0 before Sebastian Giovinco sealed the 2-0 win with a late goal in stoppage time. The save ensured the win along with Bono's fifth clean sheet of the season, and his heroics have not gone unnoticed.

According to MLSsoccer.com, Bono’s save collected 38 percent of the vote to win the Week 17 MLS save of the Week, beating by a narrow margin Philadelphia ‘keeper Andre Blake’s own game-saving stop against D.C. United, which gathered 30 percent of the vote. The New York Red Bulls’ Luis Robles and D.C.’s Bill Hamid collected 12 percent of the vote, respectively, while San Jose’s David Bingham placed fifth with 11 percent of the tally.

Congrats, Bones!
