2017 Training Camp: California Day Four Recap

TC Day 4

Toronto FC took to the field for their second preseason match in California and emerged victorious over San Diego State University 3-0. Jordan Hamilton recorded a brace while trialist Aikim Andrews added one to put TFC’s preseason record to 2-0-0.

The match was broken into three segments, similar to Wednesday however, time was increased to two 45 minute halves with an extra 30 minutes to conclude the match. This allowed many players to steadily increase their match minutes from Wednesday. The Reds looked sharp throughout the match and were able to press and create many chances while conceding very little throughout the opening 90 minutes.

Tosaint Ricketts had the first dangerous attempt on net as his header hit the crossbar following a precise cross from Steven Beitashour. TFC continued to dictate play and Jordan Hamilton opened the scoring 20 minutes in for the Reds. Jonathan Osorio played the ball out wide to Ricketts, who crossed the ball into the box and onto Hamilton whose header beat the keeper to make it 1-0. TFC’s continued to attack the flanks and had several chances just fall short to keep the score at 1-0 following the first half.

The second half saw ten changes but that did not interrupt the momentum and tempo for Toronto as they continued to be the aggressors. TFC went up 2-0 thanks to a great ball sent across the box from Jay Chapman to Hamilton who comfortably put the Reds ahead by two. Minutes later, Andrews made it 3-0 when his shot from the top of the box took a slight deflection off a defender and beat the keeper to his right side. Toronto continued to create opportunities and looked to add another just before the end of the second half but Chapman’s left footed chance just skipped wide of the goal.

The final 30 minutes saw four substitutions but neither team could add anything further to the scoreline, making the final 3-0 for Toronto FC.

Up next for the Reds is Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. PT
