Giovinco, Williams and Vanney Speak Ahead Of Colorado Match

Sebastian Giovinco vs. Colorado

There will be no rest for Toronto FC, at least not until Saturday evening.

The Reds cap a three game in six day stretch on Saturday at 2 PM ET (TSN) against the Colorado Rapids (Tickets).

TFC has lost three games in a row and find themselves in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The Montreal Impact trail Toronto by four points and have two games in hand.

It would be massive for TFC to begin their five game homestand with a win over a sneaky good Colorado side. It won’t be easy by any means, however. The Rapids have an excellent defensive record and have held their own in a very difficult Western Conference.

Sebastian Giovinco, Josh Williams and Greg Vanney spoke to the media ahead of the match. Here’s some of what they had to say.

Sebastian Giovinco on whether he prefers playing with Jozy Altidore up front

“No I don’t have a preference. I’ve played with Jozy and I’ve played without him. Whatever the coach prefers.

Giovinco on the club’s current form

“The way we’re playing right now, the situation is what it is. I think the way we played before we probably deserved a few more points here and there. But this is soccer and that’s the way it is. We have five games at home and we need to do our best to stay united and try and overcome this."

Josh Williams on the mood within the team

“It’s good. We came in today and everybody realized the task at hand. The games get bigger and bigger now as we head into the playoffs.

Williams on playing right back

“I started out the year at right back, so I would be comfortable with that. Right now I’m more comfortable in the centre-back role. I’ve played there the last couple of games. Like I’ve said all along I take great pride in being to fill in where ever I’m needed.”

Williams on the Reds’ penchant for conceding early in recent games

“It’s never something that you want. Coming into a game you always want to get a lead early. Our big thing now is taking a zero into halftime and approach the second half with the same mentality. Getting down early always puts you on the backfoot and that’s not the way you want to play.

Greg Vanney on TFC controlling their own destiny

“We’re not looking over our shoulder. For us we have one game right now and it’s Colorado. The objective is three points. We know if we get that those teams behind us will not be making ground anymore. It’s on us. We need to concern ourselves with getting results against each of the five next teams that come into our stadium, starting first and foremost with Colorado.”

Vanney on the Colorado Rapids

“They’re a stingy team. You cannot take them for granted. In their record, a lot of them are draws, which shows a team that is feisty, stingy and a team that doesn’t give much away. They very rarely, despise being in last place, lose games by multiple goals. This is a team that works hard and they understand who they are and the ways they’re going to be successful.
