Toronto FC players reported to first day of preseason on Saturday, where paperwork and medical tests were the first order of business until they take to the pitch for the first time on Monday.

It was the first time in club history that the team reported to the Kia Training Ground at Downsview Park to start preseason. The facility - complete with medical rooms, pitches for all seasons and many other amenities - was completed in the second half of 2012. In previous years the players would first arrive at BMO Field and would sometimes scatter around the GTA for tests and training during the winter.

Team captain Torsten Frings arrived early, followed closely with a group of newcomers led by central defender Danny Califf, one of the key offseason acquisitions to improve the TFC backline.

Forward Danny Koevermans continued his rehabilitation from season ending ACL surgery at midseason in 2012. The Dutchman has been able to start running again but there is still no timetable for his return.

The club will train under the winterized bubble at the training ground for the rest of January until it leaves for Orlando on February 1 to continue preseason on grass in a warmer climate. There Toronto will take part in the Disney Classic tournament.

Five Canadian players will miss the January sessions. Terry Dunfield, Doneil Henry, Ashtone Morgan, Matt Stinson and newly drafted Kyle Bekker will all fly to the U.S. on Sunday to train with the national team ahead of a pair of friendly matches this month.
