Training

Toronto FC went into its second day of preparations in Florida ahead of the Disney Classic tournament that kicks off on February 25.

At the time of writing, the Reds were heading to their second session of the day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. According to a team source, “training has been great, weather is fantastic, the pitch is beautiful and the hotel is lovely.”

Toronto FC TV will be on hand in Orlando next Tuesday for player interviews and other features for the final two weeks of preseason.

Julian de Guzman

Although midfielder Julian de Guzman and forward Nick Soolsma will be missing the March 7 CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg due to card accumulation, at the international level one of them caught a break on the disciplinary front this week.

CONCACAF announced that de Guzman’s single caution from the previous rounds of World Cup Qualifying will be voided ahead of the third round. FIFA cancelled all single cards on request from CONCACAF, giving every team a chance to compete in the next round on an “equal footing.”

Canada’s next 2014 World Cup qualifying game will be in Cuba on June 8, followed by a home tilt against Honduras at BMO Field on June 12. Panama is the other team in Group C.

Tickets

The extra batch of season tickets released by Toronto FC is down to just 362 pairs in various sections. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 416-360-GOAL (4625).

Half-season packs will go on sale soon. Those on the Gold waiting list will have first crack before the general public. List members will be notified via email Thursday.

Toronto’s Trillium Cup rival Columbus Crew announced Barbasol as a kit sponsor Wednesday, which is a shame because I hate to throw away a perfectly good can of shaving cream but they've left me no choice.
